Fabia vrs condensation problem

Featured Replies

Hi iv got a problem with my windscreen it gets condensation really bad mainly when I put the heaters even tho they are hot iv been advised it could be my heater matrix behind dash board anyone else had this problem

You could have waterleaks, check for dampness under your car matts, its known for the door carriers to leak and require sealing, its possible that the rear wiper pipe is disconected and draining into car as well.

Also is your aircon working correctly? It will struggle to demist if its broke like mine is!

Could be matrix weeping some coolant, I had it recently on my Golf. So slight I didn't really notice any coolant loss TBH, but once I got in there it had definitely leaked.

If you start out with only cold air blowing, then turn it to hot do you get a bit of a smell, similar to what you get if you take the lid off your expansion tank and have a sniff? Are you losing any coolant? Does the condensation on the windscreen seem a bit smeary, hard to wipe away?

Hi wino I loose coolant only a little bit and yeah when u wipe the window it smudges iv had the pollen filter out does look like its damp tbh don't think its leeks under the carpet tho as its bone dry on top

Could be a number of things, check the common problem areas for leaks such as the door seals (front and back), wing mirror seals, rear wiper, aerial mount etc.

To try to keep it at bay you could change your pollen filter and treat the inside glass with some rainx anti-fog.

On a side note I wouldn't advise use of the A/C system to de-mist the windows in winter, it essentially acts as a de-humidifier which on the face of it is good as it removes moisture from the air... But when you then turn the system off you'll often find your windows fog up quickly. Put simply this is because the air with the A/C on is dry, it has had a lot of moisture removed from it. When you turn the system off the water that was sitting on the condenser in the form of ice begins to melt and essentially turns the system into a humidifier, adding moisture back into the air and cabin. Combined with the moisture from your breath hitting the cold glass causes the glass to fog up again.

I dont tend to turn my aircon off, when it works that is lol

My problem is with my door seals, seems to be getting past the rubber, should i get a new door seal:

^ It's not usually the rubber door seal, it's the seal around the metal ancillaries carrier behind the door card.

Try driving at motorway speeds for 30 to 40 mins with heaters on full set to demist and floor whilst having the window slightly open. Works realy well if you have no leaks plus it keeps the battery charged throughout winter if you do it once a week.

I am led to believe that with centre console removed, you can access the box that the heater matrix sits in. The bottom of this box is where any leaked coolant will collect.  You could try unclipping this box from what's above it, and seeing if there's any moistness in the bottom.  There's an airbag ECU under it that'll be in the way of easy complete removal, but you may be able to get enough of a gap to poke some white paper into and see whether it comes out pink, damp, and smelling and tasting of coolant?

I'll be getting into this area on Sunday, so if you want I can take some pics, and assess how easy the above suggestion is or isn't?

No, the centre console only, the bit around the gearstick and handbrake.

Mine are already sealed it just seems to be getting past my actual door seal as shown in my picture.

That's exactly what it looks like when water runs down from the door carrier seal.  It might well be that the edges of the carrier are beautifully sealed, but one of the plastic fittings that hold cable groups etc is leaking through.  Found a tell-tale watermark down from one of those on one of our front door carriers.

Ahhh ok, will get doorcards off when i get chance n go mad with the sikaflex. Thanks!

Hi I think iv found the problem iv noticed that when I try the rear wiper motor there is no water coming out and it leaks out the front by engine the pipe behind the airbox has come off which is the pipe for the rear motor could this be the cause of the condensation on my windscreen
