Remap & Insurance

Featured Replies

I asked my insurance (AA) for a quote for a stage 1 shark remap on my vRS tdi, seeing the remap is on sale in dec. My existing underwriter wouldn't touch the idea with a barge pole. The cheapest alternative wanted >£250 more than my existing premium! I was really shocked by the extra amount. The increase is more than the remap!

What is the price increase you have had for a stage 1 remap?

After being told by my then insurer that they didn't cover a Stage 1 remap (also Shark) I tried the forum sponsors. Chris Knott gave a good quote but Adrian Flux beat my previous insurer's renewal quote that obviously didn't include a remap. I'm paying a little less this year than last year, with a higher mileage allowance and the Stage 1. It'll be interesting to see what they do at the next renewal, but I'm happy at the moment!

That's a good result. I tried Adrian flux at renewal time but they were more expensive than the AA, which was surprising as I thoght they specialised in hot hatches. Haven't thought to try them about cover for a remapped car

AF tend to get better quotes with modified cars than standard ones because they use companies that are very mod friendly. Some of these companies tend to avoid standard cars, and concentrate on modified. CK may also give you a better quote for a modified car than standard.

Hi,

If you wanted to give us a try for insurance please feel free to PM me some contact details and I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

Regards,

Dan.

Greenlight were cheaper with my stage 1 Octy vrs than any of the mainstream companies with a standard vrs.

Had Stage1 put on my CR170 a few weeks ago and Aviva only wanted £20 for the remaining 6 months

obviously depends what happens with insurance prices in 6 months for the annual premium.

You guys are getting a better deal than me I think.

I know I need to shop around some more but the repeated endless questions to get your details are soul destroying to go through again and again.

Re-mapped with Darkside Developments, switched to Chris Knott via this forum, minimal increase.

Worth a try!

£25 for my Cupra 280, which is now a Cupra 320

It's always going to be pricey when building it in to an existing policy, you may well have found your best deal for a standard but the chances of them still being best after declaring mods is slim to none. You'll have better joy with mods specialists at renewal time. So as said check the forum sponsors; Adrian Flux sorted me out a treat, took best part of £100 off best mods quote thus far. Ending paying not much more than if the car was standard, plus it's a good policy, sensible excess, 3rd party any car, protected no claims etc etc

I'm glad you could too, it was a good deal and sorted by your good self!

No increase in premium from Aviva, after stage 1 Revo remap. Not sure what their theshold is, but the 69BHP increase is clearly within it ! Should point out that I am nearly half way through the policy year, so will be interested to see if there is a big increase come renewal time.

Iv used Greenlight in the past and they beat every quote i had. Wasnt remapped though. Deffo worth giving them ago
