JOM Coilovers

Featured Replies

Looking at buying a set of coilovers, whether that be second hand weitec, ap etc.. Or new JOM's which seems the most likely at the minute.

My question is, do you need to change to different droplinks when fitting JOM coilovers or do standard ones still fit?

JOM= Harsh and poor ride, you'll only want to change them for some APs or similar in the near future anyway due to poor quality of Joms

As Jack says don't go for the cheap option. Save a little longer and go for APs.

You'll regret buying the JOMs

Thanks lads much appreciated comments might just live with the arch gap a little longer in that case! Think I'm just getting impatient lol

My JOMS lasted 3 months before I had to have major surgery on every part of my body where it had rattled loose. As clarkson said it would be more comfortable being towed behind it on your face.

Had jom's in my mk3 golf, never again. Save your money and buy some AP's, can NOT beat them for the money.

To answer the OP's question: yes you do need to change the drop links i am currently running JOM's bought from venom motorsports and they supplied me with the drop links for £30 or £35 i think. Yes the ride is a little hard but not enough to drastically bother me. So for me they are fine, depends if a hard ride bothers you or not.

Thanks for clearing that up! Well I use the car for work every day as well as pottering about, I think it's one of those things that I would need to feel how hard the ride is before going for them. JOM's seem to have a really divided opinion, some say terrible and others say they're fine and have no complaints especially considering how much they payed

It seems that anyone with AP's really like them, for the difference in opinion between them and JOM's the price isn't a million miles away. I think I'm correct in saying you can pick a set up for around £400? Do you also need to change droplinks with AP's?

Sorry for all the questions lol, trying to find out what I can rather than waste money!

No you can use original drop links with aps also awesome have them on sale atm I yhink

I have cheap sub £200 coilovers on my car. They're made my Raceland, which don't do them anymore. But I'm sure being under £200 they're the Sam as Joms, and I really don't think the ride is bad at all. And I've had them for nearly 2 years.

Thanks for the reply, and yes Awesome do have them down to £385 I just checked!

Anyone ever had or been in a fabia with FK's? Or are they just another below par setup compared to AP's?

Fairly sure Fk is the same as well?

I've got jom coilovers and yes my back hurts now ha ha.

I had JOM's previously, and they're definitely not the comfiest things on the planet. In their defense, for the price they are a good way to get the car low. I lived with them happy enough for about 18 months.

The main problem I see with the JOM's is the quality of them. You frequently hear that people are having to repair or replace the shocks. Mine were no different - the rears were leaking. One of them to the point that I might as well have had no shock absorber on the back!

I run KW V1's now. They're about 4 times the price of the JOM's. However... the comfort is about 4 times better! I'm convinced that with a sensible drop of about 40mm these are actually comfier than the standard suspension was! Plus the quality is awesome - Inox means they don't rust up easily.

Seems to be the majority are against JOM's with first hand experience! Think I'll go with AP's or better and just save for now as there doesn't seem to be any bad reviews with AP

Good to hear that some people actually listen to our advice on coilovers on here!! Most just choose to go for JOM's anyway because they're cheap, but then realise we were all talking sense and go for something more expensive.

Myself included :D  !!

Well that's what it's for I suppose lol so it's good to be able to get people's opinions and base a decision on it :)

I've got JOMs as I couldnt afford anything else, I don't think the ride is as harsh as people are making out but depends what you want really. Had mine on over a year now and not had any problems with reliability either :) and i use my car everyday for work and jotting around.

I don't know how old anybody else is here either so must add im only 21 aswell :)

Basically been through this thought process as well lately. I want my car lower so very very nearly bought JOMs. I've since decided to wait and I'm getting APs in the new year. I went in Alex's car with JOMs on and then with the KW v1s, and believe me, the difference is unbelievable!
