It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas...

Featured Replies

Put the roof rack on this morning, and went off down to the garden centre to get our Christmas Tree.  Bought our usual 6ft tree and took it back out to the car... but then decided that unlike the old 1 series, I didn't need the roof rack - the boot swallowed it up (with half the back seat down) easily.

And yesterday, we had an unplanned trip to Ikea... normally they're disastrous when getting fully laden trollies back to the car and going 'oops', but this time it all just got thrown in without any problems, and the boot was already half full of Christmas shopping.

I love this car  :sun: .

The Octavia boot is surprisingly large - somewhat bigger than it looks, very deceptive. My wife is on her fourth new company car this year, firstly a Golf Estate which was really nice and had a decent size boot, then a BMW 1 series, then a Golf hatch, both of which have what I describe as a rear glovebox (not big enough to be called a boot in my opinion) and currently an Octavia. Of the four cars she much prefers the Octavia in all respects, unfortunately it has to go back this week as she's getting a BMW 3 series. I think she'll want the Octavia back, time will tell.

We also got our 6 foot Christmas tree in the back of the Octavia - simply clever.

As a Christmas pressie to myself I've just picked up a 60 inch tv in all its packaging. Went in almost flat with seats down.

Work colleague has an a6 estate, we compared the boots and the octavia actually looks bigger!

Why so many company cars? Can't she keep the Octavia?

Millage in a word I'd guess, in 2000 I first started with O1's as company cars and the leasing firms would only do 36K p.a. as a maximum, I was doing 65-70K p.a. so, I swapped cars every 6 months or so.

As stated above it's due to the mileage, depending on the car make and model once you get to a certain mileage it goes back and you get another one. I have no idea what the agreement is between the lease company and my wife's employer, but that's how it works. Nice in one way, until you get something you don't really like, but at least you don't have to live with it for too long. My wife really isn't into cars at all, ask her what she wants next and she'll probably say 'a silver one would be nice', rather than a Skoda, BMW, VW, Audi etc.

At least you get a genuine non biased overall report on each car, how it rides, feels, goes etc. So far this year the Octavia is top of her list.

Thats interesting - she must cover some mileage.

I guess she has to pick cars from stock?, or perhaps given what the lease company have at that particular time?

As for the size of the O3 boot its massive but, a fleet of them couldn't deliver the amount of parcels not delivered by RM Wokingham on Saturday, I'll see if I can snap a picture or ten tomorrow morning.

I chucked a 7ft tree in mine a couple of days ago and it swallowed it with acres of room.

A tumble drier in all the packaging was no problem and ikea trips have been fine.

Best feature though is the winter pack. I just love icy mornings now.

Definitely agree with that! It's great to start the engine whack all the buttons and only have to scrape the side windows.

Definitely glad I got heated seats as the leather is freezing in a morning now.

On topic with the boot so far I've had a washing machine and a 55" TV in there, both with room to spare. Also regularly take a petrol lawnmower and tools down to my allotment without even putting the seats down.

It doesn't LOOK bigger, it IS bigger!

Boot space was the main criterion (although not the only one) for me, so I looked at a few and it's noticeable that the quoted boot sizes don't seem to tally with reality. It turns out that almost universally car manufacturers are now counting the space under the boot floor, as they mostly come without a spare as standard and the wheel well is considered as part of the load area. Combined with some funny shapes and cubbies it means that the quoted figures have no relationship with the volume of the main compartment any more.

For main compartment volume nothing beats a Mondeo, but I just didn't want one of those!
