VW Passat CC

Featured Replies

I've been toying with the idea of selling my Octavia VRs and getting a Passat CC. Ideally, I'd like one with the 2.0TSI as I love it in my car but 95% of the available cars seem to be diesel. Of the two diesels available, I'd go for the 170bhp version, but again, the 140bhp seems more common.

Does anyone have any experience of the CC?

The 140bhp is a better engine iirc. Less complicated, less issues. That may of been the PD not the CR though?

No experience with the CC. Just the normal passat.

Do like the look of the CC though

I agree that it is a good looking car, when I was changing my 2000 Passat 4Motion I considered it, but there were very few AWD cars brought to UK, so went for an S4.

VW, I think, have robbed the normal Passat of any obvious "feel good" factors and turned it into an ordinary but good car. Unfortunately lots of private buyers also need a car that is also goodish looking.  Now if they applied some of the CC styling to the normal Passat I'd expect sales to increase like they did when the B5 Passat was launched.

In fact, these two cars are used to explain the difference between a "good enough" product and a product that has been designed to "be good and make you feel good", maybe shallow thinking, but I'm sure VW could make more money out of the Passat if it was closer to the CC.

The Passat CC I would guess, was mostly aimed at the business rather than private market. I guess that explains the availability of diesel over petrol and the smaller engine due to the company car tax rules.

I like the look of the CC, but the back end headroom is compromised due to the shape.

Mine is just coming up 4 years old 170bhp diesel.

The only common fault seems to be the wiring to the bootlid wearing through which is not too bad to fix.

Returns about 50mpg on the motorway, 55mpg on a roads at a steady 55-60.

I like the interior and its generally good quality materials although not imune from rattles.

Agree on the standard passat being abit boring. Dad had a 2007 140 pd. It was nice enough, did its job. Used a lot of oil and was abit boring.

Golf was a lot nicer car, and the 140 cr never used a drop of oil.

Someone posted about this before, have a search

What's driving you towards a CC?

I can't see what it get's you over and above the vRS?

Looks nice outside and in to some

Agreed. Handsome car inside and out. Heard they're nice to drive, as is the standard Passat.

Standard passat is vague in SE form at motorway speeds. I think due to the 16 inch wheels.

Not sure if CC also suffers this.

Never seen a CC with less than 17 inch wheels though i dont think

I found the ride in the rear sickening (A roads and motorway) and I never get car sick.

On what model?

Standard or sportier suspension?

Had one before my current Superb. Really good cars, mine was new late 2009 so pre Bluemotion, 140 TDI DSG GT. The DSG gearbox with the 'Auto Hold', and automatic electronic handbrake made it effortless to drive. I now have a Superb FL with manual gearbox. The Superb is miles more practical, the CC was great to drive, I covered over 100k in it without any problems and still miss it now.

I think it was a CC GT.

I have always liked the look and just fancy something different. I love my vRS and I'm still a little unsure if selling is what I'll do, but it's something I'm weighing up. It partly financial - I want to sell the vRS whilst it still has some resale value and, to me, the CC is a very, very nice car. One of the things that I do dislike about the Octavia is the road/wind/tyre noise and I imagine that the CC is more refined as it is less sporty - maybe I'm getting older! Part of it is simply fancying a change and I can't afford a Mk3 vRS.

As I said, if I end up keeping the Octavia, I will still drive it with a big smile on my face!

There are some cracking deals on the cc at the moment, due to the new passat coming soon. I nearly got one, much nicer interior than my mk3 octavia vrs, but the missus didn't like the cc as much, and the cc was a little dull to drive. Shame really, as they are stunning.

Afraid I can be of no help on advice / experience, but I will give my opinion that I think they are a very good looking car and I would have one at the drop of a hat if the price was right, the only thing keeping me back would be the grandad accusations from friends, as I'm only 21...

Wouldnt bother about that.

Im 22 and drive an SE fabia. Everybody wonders why until they get in it for a trip and realise how comfy it is compared to their lowered bags of sh!te lol.

Took a 170bhp TDi for a test drive today and....

....well, I'm a little undecided.

The interior is a definite class above the Octavia. It's really well designed, is well screwed together and is much quieter than the vRS. And the exterior is lovely.

However, there are a couple of things that weren't so good.

Firstly, I couldn't get the seat low enough which made the driving position very alien compared to my vRS. It also makes the headroom slightly limited (I'm 6' 6" so headroom is important!) I know that it's a coupe so has a slightly lower roofline, but it's odd that the seat seems to sit so high even when it's wound right down.

Secondly, it may be an unfair comparison (with a remapped 2.0 petrol) but the engine really didn't seem like it had the 170bhp it should have had. It was smooth and refined but it had no real 'oomph', if that makes sense.

All in all, it's left me somewhat undecided. I suppose I'd really like to try one with a 2.0 TSi petrol as I think that may be a fantastic drive.

Agree with you on the engine. Its very linear which I suppose is to improve fuel economy, but it does not feel quick. You have to get it up to 2500rpm for it to really get going. I bought it for lots of distance driving which is what the Passat is designed for.

I find the seat sound at 6', however, another 6' may make all the difference. I do think they are a very comfortable seat though. One of the most supportive I have come across.

It was comfy, but I also found the rear view mirror created quite a big blind spot. I think I'd need another test drive to make things clearer.

I have been scouring Autotrader, but I have yet to see something else which floats my boat really.

I have a 2008 CC TDi 140 with the panoramic sunroof and don't find the seat too high, or the mirror in the way. I am 6'2" and I would assume that the roof would reduce the head room somewhat.

Not had any problems with the boot wiring (yet). Had the parking brake switch replaced under warranty and had to have the AC compressor replaced as that failed this summer (another common issue across the VAG range apparently).

I find it a great car to drive long distances in and it is the quietest car I've owned.
