Is this the mk2 the last value for money skoda.

Featured Replies

Just priced a new 2015 1.2 DSG with a few extras £16.750. From Skoda dealers.

2015 new Polo GTI 1.8 DSG a few extras £18.250 from Orange wheels. That's if you take the finance pack then pay it off £1500 difference,it's a no brainer,I think Skodas will soon be discounting these new Fabias if not can see them going the same way as the Rapid.

this is the issue I have, and if you look at like for like, same engine and rough spec level the 2015 polo works out cheaper so I think like the rapid skoda will have to start the discounts and maybe add some spec

Well there is no comparison really between a 2015 1.8TSI 192ps VW Polo

& a 1.2 108ps All New 3rd Generation Fabia,

other than by the summer 2015 both will be well reduced in price and Ex Demonstrators at 3 months /3,000 mile could well be 'much cheapness'

Skoda are already knocking £500 off and 4.9%Apr finance. I would imagine in the new year offers might be good.

I spec'd one up to just under 20k......that's what I paid for my fully spec'd Octavia vRS cr dsg mk2FL estate

I spec'd a dsg estate tsi and wouldn't get change from £18k ish.

I paid £14k for a Fabia vRS estate almost four years ago, why the hell is it so expensive!

reading the small print I think that offer of £500 +4.9% apr is the Q1 2015 offer, so not expecting any great change until Q2

we will see in a week but I suspect like the rapid sales will be off to a slow start until they provide a few incentives (deals and spec)

one thing I note with the polo is ALL engines are on variable service, fixed mileage is not an option, and all polos get a spare wheel, no cans of useless gunk

Why can you not compare polo gti with new top of the range Fabia, I would buy a new Fabia over a Polo if it had a decent size petrol, engine with reasonable power but it does,nt, the Polo does, and the difference is not that much.

To put it in context the new fabia spec,d up to my Blackline level would be as allready stated, cost more than the Octavia.

This should make the last of the old vrs skodas a very real bargain, as for fun and power,it puts the new one to shame.

It does make you think, what the hell are v.a.g thinking,or maybe there not.

Skoda hasn't been cheap to buy in years, if you want a car which is solid and well kitted out for little money you've got to go Korean !

Agreed. Like I've said in the Octavia 3 forum. Unless they come up with an amazing deal Skoda will not get my business.

A perfectly reasonable statement, my wife's 1.9TDI Fabia Elegance with just 50k on the clock is coming up to 9 years old and its time for a change, we have looked at the Skoda Citigo but for the same money i can get a Hyundai I10 1.2 Premium with far more standard kit on and more power..... Skoda are going to be losing sales, the Korean's are on the ball.

That's why we bought i10 premium :) with 5 years warranty and services for less than £11,000

I personally think your comparison is flawed.

Comparing a lower spec car at a main dealer price with a better spec car at an internet dealer price with a finance back hander.

So inconsistant amounts of discount between the two.

Really you should compare on list price.

Or wait until the Fabia has been out for a few months and there are online deals out there.

Because we all know the Skoda price will need some form of incentive to make it viable to a lot of people.

The high prices now are just to snag people than MUST HAVE the new car NOW to feel good about themselves.

So they get fleeced first and we get the better deals later...

Having been daft enough to buy a Rapid Elegance in the first six months when they kept messing about with pricing and adding extra kit in an attempt to sell one or two I'd never ever again buy any new Skoda model in the first year.

If it doesn't sell enough, the spec will go up (free extra kit!) or the pricing incentives will mean real cost falls.

Just like on the Rapid, which resulted in the early buyers getting mugged off with a lower spec car for more money.

You have a point, but what you missed was the residuals on a polo will still be good after three years, your fabia with all discounts when and if it happens will be crap.I bought a top spec 1.2dsg elegance fabia 61 plate at the end of 2011 full price then was nearer £15.000. I bought it for £12.500 from Skoda dealer got £8000 for it against a new Blackline. So with everything taken in, I still think they should stop this stupid initial high price stance with reductions later which only destabilises the Skoda market, and put a realistic and sustainable price on there models in the first place.

I fully agree with the previous post re the i10 I have a 2013 active model allready as a runaround, the new premium model fully spec,d is under £11000 that's what I call value for money.

I guess in the end it's all down to personnel preference, and what each of us perceive as a bargain if one exists, personally I have no brand loyalty to any make, but I do know having owned both a Kia Sorento and Hyundai i10 they are now every bit as good as most VAG

Cars and I would now suggest more reliable, that's why you get 7+5yr warranties on them.

Nah, he simply "outfoxed" you, and you know it .... ;-)

Irrespective of if you compare the internet price of a higher spec model or a dealer price for a lower spec..... what really counts is what price you pay for the exact model you want, i could not care where it comes from or what badge is on it...... as said, Hyundai are producing some very nice cars, my work colleague has the new 1.2 premium i10 and its so VAG as to be a total copy ! I honestly can not see what will entice me to spend my cash on anything other than Korean at the moment, Skoda were good value.... were.... but now they are just another expensive german badge along with the rest, and for us wanting value for money, they are off their game.

ok

now I know skoda UK have lost the plot

fabia SE 1.4TDi 90 £15390

polo SE 1.4 TDi 75 £14795

A1 SE 1.6 TDi 116 £15390

all base spec no extras and base paint option

I used the TDi options as the Audi only offer the 1.6TDi engine on the SE ( no base S trim)

and the skoda is the lowest spec of the three

the only thing I can think is skoda UK are inflating the price to offer discounts as std and try to make it look a good deal, trouble with that way of thinking is people are getting wise to inflated RRP with discounts as std as now a common tactic in the high st with white and brown goods

You have a point..... i suspect they are doing the car version of the furniture sellers (DFS Etc) and offering them up at silly prices only to discount them later (and you never know you may get some mug to buy at the higher price)..... poor policy in my eyes, with the example you give the Audi would be the one to have. The two Fabia's i have now may well be the last Skoda's i ever own, i am actually sad by this thought, but common sense  means you don't stick with one brand of car. Skoda were good value....now its Hyundai. The King is dead.... Long live the King !

What difference does it make what the RRP is, so long as the price you're happy paying is agreed at point of sale, it sometimes helps residuals if the list price is higher anyway.

If you want to go down the Korean route that's fine if you like the cars and I agree they're better than they've ever been but they're still not at VAG levels of desirability, spec wise and warranty levels you can't ague with Hyundai/Kia though.

Qu. Is this the mk2 the last value for money skoda?

As above it is down to the volume of sales as to whether Skoda give some of their profit away but the key things is the UK exchange rates against the Euro and the Czech Koruna.  If the GB pound stay where it is against the Euro and Koruna then things should broadly stay where they are or maybe improve a bit on the buy price if sales volumes are low and Skoda offer incentives.

As anyone knows who watches the news the Euro-countries have their financial problems and the UK does with its National Debt doubling in the last few years and political uncertainty over the General Election in May could see UK Pound drop by 5, 10, 15 % or so making car imports fully or partiallly priced in Euros become more expensive. An example of how currencies can effect actual car prices look at the Japanese imports where their currency has falllen by about a third from its peak and therefore there is now thousands of pounds off Japanese cars.   The reverse can happen.

This happened in early 2007 when the GB pound fell from buying a Euro for 65 pence to it costing 95 pence for a Euro in late 2008 the European car companies raise their RRP substantially each quarter and then tune their incentives accordingly.  In Euroland money can be loaned at virtually zero percent (when Skoda-VAG sells the cars to SUK) so they see having a high RRP and 0% finance (42 months!) as the best way forward.  Interesting times.

Or they're just going to announce a VAT-free offer which knocks ~20% off the price and "hey presto!" it's competitively priced....

Surprised in particular the Audi is so "cheap", but you have listed three door prices for the A1 and Polo..

the A1 is 3 door only and the fabia don't seem to do a 3 door

but the biggest thing is the A1 SE only come with a 1.6TDi 115 engine, far better than the 1.4TDi 90 in the fabia

so where are skoda getting their prices from as the price difference of the 90ps - 105ps 1.4Tdi on the SE L is £500  which would on paper make the skoda more expensive than the audi if they did that engine option on the SE

skoda's pricing at the moment makes no sense to me

are we going to see VAG (vw audi group) become SAG (skoda audi group) ?

is this why skoda are going more main stream / normal with their styling?

3 door A1's are only 3 door,

but the 5 door Sportback surprisingly has 5 doors.

I am trying to compare like with like, no point comparing a hatch to a sportback

Lovely interiors though, 3 or 5 door, when you pay the premium.

Looking forward to seeing the All New 3rd Generation Interiors in the Flesh and all this extra mm of space

we are told about,

any in the pictures look pretty low rent.
