Is this the mk2 the last value for money skoda.

Featured Replies

The Rapid, not Sportback, seems good value, perhaps the Toledo even better value though, will be interesting to see how the RRPs, deal contributions and finance deals are published in a couple of days time for Q1 of 2015 !

Good Value, or just cheap and maybe getting cheaper.

Some real bargains to be had on the ones that dealers are struggling to shift, Ex Demos etc.

Maybe best bought as Keepers,

Because Skoda seems to be the new Seat.

Buy the cars and no other Dealerships other than a Skoda one will want the cars as a Trade in,

well not for decent money.

I am trying to compare like with like, no point comparing a hatch to a sportback

I thought the sport back *was* a hatchback, just with 2 extra doors?

Re 'Normal Styling',,

do we mean 'Back to the Future'   Maestro, Maxi, AX, Stilo type Retro?

Same Platform as a Polo, A1 and dimensions, 'Keep it boring looking'

& keep telling them it is Lower & Wider.

They might never actually notice it is just a Tornado Line and wider sills.

adjusted for all 5 door

still to makes fabia look expensive when you look at the specs

only £620 extra for a 1.6TDI 116PS over a 1.4TDI 90PS, or £35 to lose 15PS if you choose the polo over the fabia

Fabia SE 1.4TDi 90 £15390

These are ACTUAL after-discount prices from Drive the Deal this morning. There is zero discount available on the Fabia. You get £600-ish off the the Audi and £2750 off a 5-door Polo.

The 1.4TDi SEL 5-door Polo that lists at £17400 can be had for £14405 (£2995 discount) which suggests that VW's are not selling at list either.

as only VW are advertising on telly, obviously not getting as many sales as they want, but they must be selling a fair volume due to the wait for new polo's

are skoda really hitting VW sales that much?

It will be interesting to see how much advertising skoda do later in the month for the official launch of the new fabia in the UK

Judging by the amount of new polos I see around I doubt Skoda are pinching that many sales from VW. The problem with the rapid and fabia 3 is that although they are nice looking cars (IMO) they are more expensive and have much cheaper looking and feeling interiors than a polo!

At first glace you aren't getting quality or value from the new models!

i am waiting until I can see both in the flesh before making any decision

I am also looking at Hyundai i20 , good spec and price and did not do bad in jd power survey (a lot better than polo), only problem appears to be engines are not as efficent / economical

A local Skoda dealer to me is offering £500 deposit contribution and an extra £500 on top of the trade in price on the new Fabia with 3 years free servicing.

Basically, £1k off list and free servicing, still not enough when the Polo can be had for less with the same £1k up front discount.

As for the Hyundai i20, good warranty and new model looks nice but all the reviews I've read are saying to wait until the new 1.0l turbo engine comes out as the existing engines aren't good enough in this company.

Broadspeed are doing discounted New Fabia.

hmm

looking more like it

that was rough spec I was looking at, bought a car ( my roomster) from a broker before, so happy to do it if the discount s enough

The heaviest discounts on Orangewheels appear to be on the 90 petrol estates. The 110 TSi and 90TDi's appear to be around £770.

The estates are getting a £2500 saving. Been looking...

Well we are off tomorrow (sorry today !) to test drive the i10 Premium 1.2 5 door with the only option available to it (winter pack with heated seats and heated wheel), if it drives like i have been told then we are ordering two of them, one for the wife and one for my daughter. In the '' city car '' sector i just can not see the other makes getting anywhere near that level of kit and quality for the price, as i have said in another post the citigo was our 1st choice until we worked out that the kit level is somewhat poor, it does not come in anything higher than a 1.0 litre and we hated that clip on '' infomation '' pod which was akin to a 90's faceoff stereo !

I will update after the test drive, i am holding out for the new i20, but as said above i will not buy with the current (aka old) engines in situ, i am waiting for the new range of high efficient petrol engines to come out to match the new car.

Update as promised...... bought 2 of them, one white and one in grey..... stunning little car, felt far above its price bracket when behind the wheel and had me smitten ! I will be '' borrowing '' the wifes car often. We should be getting them mid March as both are factory orders and i will look at the i20 when its released but will not even consider ordering until the new engines are in.

There is an easy set of explanations for all of this...

1. Skoda are trying to establish themselves as a brand and shake off the "cheap VW" moniker

2. There is now a large userbase of satisfied Citigo (cheap Up!) and Octavia (cheap Golf) owners who will just assume that the Skoda is cheaper.

3. Its been awarded car of the year, so they will play on this in marketing

4. an inflated RRP makes future offers look better
