Advice on Mk1 Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi guys

This is my 2004 MK1 1.2 litre classic Fabia. This is my first car and I am about to turn 17 in a few months time and I was wondering if you guys knew of any affordable modifications I could do in order to improve my car's appearance. I plan to fit a set of 17" alloys when I have the money. The car has 129,000 miles on it and is still running great.

So far all I have done is added a few stickers and fit a new stereo.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks Jim :)

I'd keep it standard mate, insurance is a pig, however you could do the dual rear fog light mod, make sure the rear door carriers are sealed up, debadge, colour code mirrors and handles, de chrome front grille, fit DEPO projectors, retrofit Fog lights, fit different seats. In short, I would just save the money for fuel and insurance, I'm 17 too and it's difficult, both of mine were standard bar a hole in the exhaust on the 2nd one

Hi mate

Thanks for your reply. I definitely like the sound of colour coding the handles and mirrors. Yes insurance is awful for young drivers these days. Do you have any more information on the fog light modification you were talking about?

I would find out what your insurance company will let you do F.O.C before considering anything at all.  Looks like you're in a rural area so might not be as bad a sting as it could be.

Even 17" wheels might add a pretty penny to the insurance.

£200 for me when I tried to whack some cheap TDs on the Clio

Yea I have looked into that but if they are Skoda or some other VW group alloys then they won't be too bad. Yea I'm from Northern Ireland and they don't seem to be too bad for modifications depending on what company you are with.

Best mod £ for £ I can advise is to get an older relative /friend etc with lots of years experience and good record on policy . They may never drive the car -but the insurance companies love them. One safety mod you can do is to wire up the rear passenger fog light .The fitting exists ,but not the connector and possibly the wiring from the driver side.

Yea my dad will be going on as a driver for that reason and for handiness as well. If he has to drive it a day or something. Yea I think the next chance I get I'll connect the rear passenger fog, have all the bits in the shed and it looks straight forward enough.

How about some heated seats? It's winter :P

After a few sprouts most seats are normally heated [emoji1]

With the alloys id say stick to a set of skoda ones. When I had my pug 306 I fitted alloys from another 306 and it made no difference.

You could fit vrs front and rear bumper, alloys, brakes (research that though).

Brakes not really needed on the 1.2 Steve

I also wouldn't do the bumpers as it could be viewed as making it like a VRS and hence making it more desirable to thieves, hence increasing the insurers risk. Set of Skoda alloys and perhaps the newer rear light clusters maybe?!

I'll probably stick a set of Skoda or vw alloys on. Don't think I'll change the bumpers but I'll probably debadge the fabia and the classic on both front quarter panels.

I had a focus as my first car and i swopped the 16s for the ST 18s. Ford for Ford so could claim it was factory fitted :)

Other than that the only mods were things like led lights, nicer floor mats, dewiper, and mudflaps  - the insurance did actually want £12 for the mudflaps though! hahaa

If your a wee bit mechanically minded I'd take the calipers off and spray paint them green. Go for the VSR look :). Possibly a set of VSR allows too. Insurance might not stiff you too bad since they're factory.

Another vote for keeping it standard and just enjoy it for what it is.

But best mods for appearance would be to lower it and stick some alloys on there.
