Pirelli Centurato P7, comfort and sound?

Featured Replies

Hi all!

Got news that my car will be delivered with "Pirelli Centurato P7 225/45 17".

I want to change to "Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2" because of sound problems read earlier in other threads.

Will these Pirelli's be a problem?

No problem for me. GY winter tyres are little bit more silent, but nothing to complain about summer tyres.

I'd look at your driving habits. If you drive alot and change tyres every 2 year, why not try the Pirelli's? Maybe they work ok for you. If rolling noises are important to you (and maybe you don't drive alot so you're looking at spending 4+ years with the same tyres) you could consider changing, since the Pirelli's aren't the quietest tyres available...

I'm shamelessly putting the Goodyear Efficientgrips forwards as a very quiet very good summer tyre...

My Superb came from the factory with the same Pirelli's fitted. They covered high mileage over their life and were quiet.

A good tyre, no complaints.

During the last few thousand miles of their life the side wall failed on one of the fronts. The rears suffered from saw toothing, also in their dying days.

Good tyres but I replaced them with Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance tyres which are proving to be equally good.

I'd have no concerns with your car's tyres, certainly not worth changing them on a brand new car.

Good tŷres IMO having driven cars with them fitted.

Despite having wheel alignment at each service (15,000km), and later on, 3 alignment and geometry checks in 3 months, my Cintaurato P7s that came from the factory scalloped badly and became very loud. They still had almost half their tread left but I couldn't stand it anymore and replaced with Conti SC5.  Much happier.

My car is the Haldex version so that may have made a difference. I rotated at each service.  I have a TPMS in the car (not the Skoda one that uses ABS sensors, an actual TPMS) and run at 40PSI cold (~44PSI when hot).

All 4 tyres were scalloped on both edges, leading me to believe that the tyres are crap.  Sample size of 1, YMMV.

I considered putting the tyres on in the reverse direction to try to wear in the other direction but gave up and replaced.

Mine also came with Cinturato P7 225/45/17

I have exactly 20k miles on them and I am pleased with them. Quiet tyre, very good in dry and wet. After 20k miles (32k km) they have a wear of aprox 1/2.

By the way, this tyre was in the top 3 in the Autobild Summer tyre review, so it's considered a good tyre.

My P7 Cinturatos went very noisy to the extent I thought I had a major mechanical problem with the car.  They turned sawtooth shaped.

Never again will I buy Pirelli.

Before that Michelins were bulging.  Avons just cracked up and look awful and wore quickly too.

Went to Barum Bravuris 2, brilliant, will never look back.  Have done 21k miles, and still at least10-12k miles left in them, quiet, reasonably grippy, consistent.. Happy.

BTW this is on a MK1.

I'm currently due to replace the tyres on my Superb. Looking at the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance due to their low rolling resistance and low noise. Any thoughts on these vs the P7's?

I have Michelin X-Ice ix3 225/45 17" on right now. On Trifid" rims.

They're pretty good. Not so noisy at all. At 110km/h the car gets 69 decibel with a Samsung Galaxy S3, "Sound Meter lite" application.

And 66 decibel with a real and calibrated sound/decibel meter.

Will see how the summers will do.
