vRS headlights

Featured Replies

Hi,

Picked up 3 month old petrol DSG Octy vRS yesterday and on 260 mile journey home had a least 6-10 cars either flashing headlights or rear fogs at me, thought at first auto lights weren't working, then I thought must be the xenon lights - being brighter than standards, anyone else have this problem with other drivers flashing, there's no adjustment as such I need to make to lights is there, notice on start up they go up, down, left and right, thanks [emoji106]

I also faced this issue where fairly regularly I was flashed at. Go to a point I thought there was an issue with the headlight beam / level and booked the car in with the dealer. As soon as I got to the dealer, he said that they were aware of similar inquiries and that there was no issue apart from the fact the Xenons were indeed very bright and gave the effect to oncoming vehicles that I had my main beam on. The vehicle light settings were checked and all was OK. Just got to accept that the Octavia has very bright and broad beam but all legal!

  • I find that if I'm "using" the car then people flash me. In conversation with other drivers of a similar nature, (all advanced or Police class 1), and with performance cars, it seems to be the thing

  • Couldnt agree more, I get this quite regularly where people sit well below the speed limit then are both surprised and angered that they've become subject to a safe overtake by someone just wanting to

The most annoying slow drivers are the ones that accelerate down the straights/safe over taking sections of road then, slow back down for the twisty non safe over taking bits of road, they're the ones

You wouldn't be very happy if your pilot in his A380 had never been subjected to regular tests and training but we accept that we only need a driving test once. It may explain why we kill more people in car accidents than in aircraft each year.

Poor driving skills are the main causes of death not speed.

I got flashed today for having my dips on (halogen lights) because it's pretty dull and dreary.

It's just people thinking you're in the wrong.

My partner learnt to drive two years ago now, and her driving instructor taught her that the sign to turn her lights on was when street lights were on! What a load of ****.

No wonder people drive round with no lights on if that is what they are being taught!

And the turn the street lights off at midnight in my town, so I guess you don't need headlights then either ;)

Under normal weather conditions, it's a pretty good indicator of when to turn your lights on at the end of the day.  I was taught that 20-odd years ago.

Of course... the fact that councils don't turn the lights on at the right time these days due to 'budget cuts' is another matter entirely!

The actual "lighting up time" as per Highway Code is approx 1hr before sunset.

But it all depends on weather conditions, and to be honest what colour car you drive!

My last car was black with no DRL so I had dips on nearly all the time.

My absolute pet hate though is people driving on side lights, or people driving in pitch black with DRLs, how the hell can you not notice?!

When I learnt to drive (admittedly only four years ago now) I was taught, if you think you need them on, turn them on. Better to have them on and not really need them, than have them off and need them.

Bulbs are cheap.

Or you could use your common sense!

Oh yea, the 'same speed everywhere' ones are also infuriating! They pull away from you in a 30, then you catch them in a 60, and often in the catching up phase there were passing opportunities but by the time you reach their rear bumper none present themselves!

We're inflicted by them from March to October inclusive. They'll do 40 in a 60, come into a village with 30 limit, and continue to do 40. Completely ignorant to other road users, they're invariably towing a caravan and are oblivious to the endless queue stuck behind them. They have those extended wing mirrors, which I'm sure is to count the number of cars stuck behind them so they can discuss and compare it around the camp fire later. They're ignorant either way because they'll either not look in the mirrors, or see the queue in the mirrors and do nothing about it.

Hate them, as they seem to think that as they're on holiday everyone else is too. I used to have to tow a trailer occasionally for work, and always felt self conscious about holding people up, so frequently pulled over to allow them past. I honestly can't understand how anyone doesn't feel uncomfortable about holding up other road users. Perhaps you have to sign an 'ignorant b......' form before you can buy a caravan or camper van.

Thought this was about headlights... Funny how subjects change. Butbin some countries they DO have minimum speeds.

The Uk has minimum speed limits applicable to some roads, the signs are listed in the Highway Code for reference. (Aware the HC isn't law, but it does list road signs and minimum speed is a lawful sign) - ex Sussex Police Area Car driver...
