Insurance Comparison

Featured Replies

This may not be the correct forum, but:

I hear criticisms that some insurance comparison sites are not really impartial, do not cover the full market, and can be distorted by alliances with the insurance companies themselves.  Given that, do members here have any advice, comments or reccommendations please?  Or have any particularly favourable / unfavourable recent experiences with any of these sites?  How do they rate

- Compare the Market
- Money Supermarket
- Quotezone
- Confused

Does it matter as long as they get you the best quotes? Use a few and pick the lowest.

... as long as they get you the best quotes ....

.

Er, yes, that was rather the point of my question!

Yes, most of the comparison sites are owned by an insurance company so they won't always be completely impartial.

Just use a couple of different ones, and then have a look to see what cashback you can get through Quidco and you won't go far wrong.

How does the quidco thing work pls? I ask as mine is due for renewal soon and I have never heard of it?

I wouldn't worry about it. The best way is to get quotes from the various sites then visit the insurance companies website directly not through a 3rd party

It's a cash back website - you register for an account then from there, click through to various other retailers, service providers and so on.

You'll earn cash back on all kinds of things. It starts with just a couple of percent on normal shopping sites through to much more substantial sums on things like phone lines, insurance, breakdown cover and so on and so forth.

It can take a couple of months for them to pay out on some things, and the amount you'll get varies up and down but there are some very appealing deals.

If you sign up for BT broadband and TV you can get £200 at the mo for example.

They have their own car insurance comparison now, with cashback available. Sometimes the best cashback is only on pricey policies but I've also had it on the most competitive ones as well in the past.

+1 for Quidco and Topcashback.

As far as the insurance aspect is concerned I use the 2 major comparison sites as a starter. After finding the insurance policy best for me I also then try that insurers website direct and also some of those that do not appear on the comparison sites like direct line, esure and aviva. Mine is due shortly and admiral were £30 cheaper when I used their website rather than the comparison site, though they tend to give a big discount for the 1st year then it shoots up dramatically after then if you stay with them so be prepared to move next year if you choose them. Don't forget to check the level of cover your actually getting including the usual things like the excess, what the courtesy car cover is as some may not guarentee one if the repair centre are out of them, if legal cover is included etc as these will make a difference. As an example SWMBO is with Saga and I pay a small increase to guarentee a coutresy car so if she bashes hers she won't have to commute in mine.

Thanks be worth a look methinks

I've had £750 through it so far.

Well I've just checked and I can get £30 for going with my current provider through their comparison site and at a lower premium than I have been quoted.   So much appreciated, thanks....

Hi dan,

Sorry to jump on this I'm serving in BFG at the moment and only have a limited number of option here and I'm paying way too much £810 a year for a VW Caravelle!!! I'm looking to change to a Skoda octavia VRS estate later in the year before we move back to UK am I likely to see any improvement?

my skoda rapid insurance is with esure which i got from compare the market.com. they weren't the cheapest at £190 full comp, but the excess is only 50 quid.

has anyone gone with skoda gap insurance as a top up?
