SD card music file otions

Featured Replies

Hi all,.

recently purchased a 16GB SD card and loaded some music on it to try out in the radio module...(mostly MP3 format with soem Windows media player)

Seems to work OK but does take a long time to "load up".   Is this normal, or is it better to file music under serperate folders, eg "classical", "pop", Misc?

At the moment I just put each cd on onto the SD card....ie no sub folders,

Many thanks for any replies

As you say its 16 gig i had a 32 gig card put them on same as yourself, does seem an age to load mine was a pioneer head unit played them well once loaded up.

Perhaps better to get 4 gig cards and load differnt types of music onto each one?

I would agree with that one my head unit in this car does not support one, if it did i think you are doing the right thing could always load the larger one as backup, they are cheap enough and take minimal room up.

The Bolero most probably has the old firmware which is causing the slow reading problems.

I have mine broken down into letters iof the alphabet first, then name of artist and album

Makes searching a lot easier

Not sure if it's relevant to the load times but I have my music in artist then album folders on a 16gb card and it only takes a few seconds to load. Song know what firmware I have though.

Ive got the bolero with a 32gb card in. Got about 25 folders (no sub folders) and it loads and plays instantly

Yes like you say loads of different ways to get to the same goal all good and valid points, firmware would be a big factor on load times mine was an old pioneer with a usb and sdhc card in front.

Putting them in sub folders or alphabet would also have helped me i guess. but will never know, but i will bear that in mind next time.

As an added benefit, the firmware upgrade from v53 > v54 means that larger capacity cards can be read.

Have a look here for previous problems related to Bolero speed.

Hi and thanks for the replies.

I have created 3 sub-folders, but it does not seem to make much difference. But once loaded,as long as its left in it seems to "boot up" ok.

I did wonder if MP3's may load quicker?....but the files seem to be a lot bigger after conversion so I think I will leave them as they are (mixture of MP3 and Windows media player...which seem to play OK anyway).

I may try and get a software "upgrade", but not due for a service until middle of the year.....so I may just try smaller SD cards in future...althought the load time is not too bad compared to getting out a CD and putting it in..(....just expectation that it should be "instant" I suppose), .....but a small price to pay for having 100+ cds available...can't make my mind up which ones to play now...!
