  • I'm not sure I'd mind about the noise if I had a car which can lap the Nordscheife in under 8 minutes (not many family hatches can do that) Sometimes it's better not to draw attention to yourself

  • Keith, this is a seat thread. You've already got a Golf one, now bugger off!

Round two of the Golf R v Leon 280 Cupra, debate / arguments begins.

Looks good also against the Octavia vRS etc..

Except it's not!

Cupra is pitched in between Golf GTi PP+ and the R. Having owned an Octy estate, as good as the Mk3 is, it won't be close to the Cupra.

The Cupra R might be another thing altogether!

I'd have thought after discounts, the price delta would be more than £2k as well. Nice shape, dammit!

Depends surely on your overall requirements in ,useable practical space, performance , looks and price..

Will the Octavia vRS R break cover soon?

Will the Octavia vRS R break cover soon?

Why? Where would it fit?

Why? Where would it fit?

All part of the washing powder syndrome, peoples preferences. Simples!

But pointless if simply takes sales of other VAG models! Complete waste of development costs.

The days of VAG trying to fill niches with all their brands are over.

There are bound to be overlaps, albeit carefully controlled internal competition.

There is still money to be made with similar products within VAG but under their different brands. Quite a few companies are at it these days.

As long as the Octavia has it's huge boot it doesn't matter what's under the bonnet, it's still differentiated enough from VW and SEAT.

Yup. It's costs millions to engineer and tool up for a new vehicle off an existing platform. No car maker will do it unless it provides incremental growth to pay back the investment and become profitable. I can't see the point of an octavia that's as fast as the golf R unless there were enough octy loving golf haters around! Like 250k of them.

There doesn't need to be 250,000 sales to make a faster Octavia worthwhile.

I wouldn't buy a Golf R as the boot is too small, an equally fast Octavia vRS would however be of interest.

So here is one potential sale VAG can't currently cater for.

There are however lots of other far more complicated reasons why a faster vRS may never hit the road, shareholders, longer term product roads and internal politics all play their part.

If there is room for an Audi RS3, Golf R and SEAT Cupra R then a fear of cannibalisation won't be behind the lack of a faster vRS.

There does. VAG would never make a fast Octavia for less than 50k a year, it would never recover the BIW tooling costs!

Doubt there will be a faster octavia vrs

As the changes would be minimal and mainly cosmetic then any tooling costs would soon be absorbed, especially considering Skoda's historically longer product life cycles.

That's true. Blonde moment I was thinking a complete new vehicle. The engine is different in the octavia, they might for the golf gti pp version I would have thought. A 280hp octavia would need some serious changes to the suspension.

This is good news. Another option to consider when we are looking to swap out if our Fabia Estate. Especially if available at a bargain price (the list price is just daft).

I think SEAT have got the aesthetic of the C pillar / rear 3/4 view absolutely spot on all versions. That hip swage line is just right. Now, if it had AWD and another 100hp....
