Hi i have a seat leon mk2. was told to come on to this site from seatcupra.net to try find out anwsers to why my bluetooth is not working.

 

i am getting voltage to some of the pins at the module in the car but when done an auto scan it was not talking and it has never worked since i have owned the in july 2013 and got told that it needs a complete software update to work with my iphone 5s.

 

model number of bluetooth module is 5P0862335B. i have the RNS510 sat nav unit fitted which is 5P0035680A.

 

can anyone help out to why it is not working?

The part number of that module looks similar to the part number of my Dad's module in his 08 a3. It might just be too old to work with the rns510? It also seems possible that there are some wiring issues in the loom looking at scan results.

I was thinking a canbus wiring issue rather than a power issue as its not communicating with the gateway or the head unit. Look for a break or a loose pin in the plug from the twisted pair (the can wires) that goes into the Bluetooth unit?

Certainly not impossible but they are pretty hardy things! If you have continuity I might be tempted to change it. I think it's fairly old. How old is the car?

It's a 2009 plate. Never worked since I have owned it in July 2013. Okay I'll try that soon. It's finding time and the weather to do it in scotland.

Clear the fault codes and see what reappears. Post back a new scan after that.

If this is a factory fitted module the canbus connections may not connect to the back of the head unit, since they can connect anywhere on the canbus data network. The whole point of canbus is to remove unnecessary wiring. All the Bluetooth module needs is a connection to can hi, can low and power to actually power up and be seen by the car.

 

Assuming this is an original install, then If wiring is suspect you could buy the bluetooth retrofit cable and bypass the factory loom all together.

 

I do have some concern with the age of that module, I suspect it will neither support the iPhone or indeed bluetooth music streaming.

Yes it was factory fitted. But clearing it still not going to make the Bluetooth work tho as its not talking to it.

What Manny says about CAN wiring is correct but because its a network I think any two points are effectively joined so if there is a break, continuity would be compromised and I believe the continuity test is valid. If continuity is present then a module issue is most likely, if not you could try a new bypass loom as Manny suggested.

Either way I agree you probably need to change the module for an iPhone connection.

I am not familiar with the Leon. What type of driver info system does it have? In your RNS510 coding is the BAP setting ticked or not?

I could not tell. It has a display in the left hand cluster with has mpg and direction and can change it on the right hand stalk. Will that be on the unit itself? It mutes when you press phone button.

You are probably safest with a 7p6035730j or later or a 5k0035730d or above module which work with IPhones and can be paired from the phone end even if they don't show in the driver info system. The more premium modules require the newer dis for pairing.

Muting like you describe usually indicates no module is present which is effectively what you have currently.

Yeah something must not be right. I'm not bothered if it shows in the display or not as long as it works.

Given no proper knowledge of whether you have a full dis or which version it is I would say yes.

I don't enough about the Leon to advise sorry. If you look in the coding for the RNS510 and see if the BAP setting is checked that will help determine if it is using the newer BAP or older DDP comms protocol (no tick). If no tick you have the older protocol and so you are a more or less limited to the above quoted modules with an iPhone anyway.
