Considering a new Yeti

Featured Replies

My pre-facelift 1.8TSi Elegance has a sound absorption mat attached to the underside of the bonnet. I seem to recall a long time ago (2010 ish) that various people said theirs didn't have this, dependent on variant, and some obtained one from their dealer & fitted it themselves with a noticeable improvement in engine noise intrusion.

What's the situation with F/L Yetis?

Do they have this on all models, or some, or none?

I feel that (in petrol models anyway) by far the majority of noise transmitted into the car is road noise but to reduce this further is a major engineering challenge. As the Yeti has quite wide tyres plus a suspension set up from other vehicles in the VW range, then presumably it shares the road noise characteristics of the cars it is based on - unless a lot of additional interior sound absorption material is added to reduce it.

My F/L Greenline Diesel has one fitted as standard.

My friends Golf tdi is noisier than my Yeti, engine & road.

Very interesting to see the photo of engine compartment on your Octavia 1.8 Denis - everything looks to be exactly the same components in exactly the same layout as my 2010 Yeti 1.8 TSi.

Skoda clearly just transplanted the whole set up straight into the Yeti.

My F/L 2.0 diesel SE city has the mat fitted.

I thought the bonnet pad was only fitted to diesels.

You could always fit the NoiseKiller kit, it made a dramatic difference to mine.

I love quiet cars. I have put bitumsstic pads on the under side of the bonnet and doubled the sound absorption material. I have noise killer mats under the carpet and in the boot area.

Sorry forgot to add...you need extra spinach to lift the bonnet!

Personly I like the pur of a deisel engine

But the road noise that I noticed on my test drive ( 1.6tdi greenline ) was all tyre noise coming from the back

The noise is the same as my vans with no bulkhead fitted

It's not as bad as ime makeing it out to be but for 20 grand I wasn't expecting to be as loud as it was and its stopped me putting a deposite on that version

I've not driven a 1.2tsi but it's now an option What are your thoughts on power ( ie hills ) and road noise

Ime still wanting to get a yeti regardless of my thoughts and its between 1.2tsi se or 1.6tdi greenline I do apx 6,000 miles a year and

It's mostly hills in the Peak District (Buxton)

Thanks for any info

I thought course chip bitumen was an Australian problem for noise engineers .

Plenty of it here in the UK, especially where lack of maintenance (which means nearly everywhere these days) causes the bitumen to wear down making the aggregate stand proud of the surrounding surface.

Oil based bitumen evaporates over time, particularly in our hot interior and the crushed rock gravel reduces maintenance costs.

1) I also used Nationwide. Everything went smoothly. It's a bit of a leap of faith transferring £20k plus if you are buying for cash, but the car turned up as advertised, 8 miles on the clock, all handed over very professionally. Mine was a car already being shipped so can't comment on the delivery time, but I was also told 12-14 weeks for a factory order. I don't think Nationwide can do much to speed that up. The consolation is, like me, you presumably got c £4500 off the list price?

2) I have that colour/wheel combination. It looks good. Maybe a bit safe but I'd prefer classic to a bit racy/left field!

3) Don't know, why not ask them. But be quick it will be being built imminently I suspect.

4) Haven't driven a Sportage but my 140 Diesel is quiet, at least as much as my previous car (a Merc diesel) and probably more so

With that milage id go for the 1.2tsi, short hilly trips would kill the DPF on the diesel and the little petrol (especially with an extra 20bhp from Shark Performance in Mansfield) will easily deal with the hills around Buxton.

Right it's decision time ???????

Yeti jungle green 1.2tsi se new £18090

Yeti jungle green 1.6tdi se new £19100

Both cars at the docks but will have to be reg as 64 plate to get this offer 2 weeks delivery 2.9% pcp £149 3 year service

Or nov 64 plate 1030 miles 1.6tdi jungle green sat nav £17000 no service offer

I do 6000 miles a year with a lot of 10 to 20 mile runs Unless I go on holiday

what do you think I should go for ??????????

For your mileage and use go petrol!

Agreed, petrol.

Do a search on here for 1.2 tsi. Loads of positive feedback for this engine. It's very quiet you can barely hear it. In a different league for refinement after 10 years of driving various diesels.

If it's a manual you will use the gearbox more than a diesel but with the dsg you hardly notice.

Hi again just come back from a test drive on the 1.2 tsi and am now going to order a 1.6tdi deisel

It was ok but only ok Slow to pull away at the lights and a bit wishy washy

Ime so used to the torque of the deiselI and think I'll be happier with an oil burner

Thanks for all your help

agh

Which one are you going for?

Greenline?

You should enjoy it witch ever one you go for I have had the Greenline for 3 1/2 years only done 20000 mile no dpf problems now having a new Greenline on the 1st of March three weeks to wait.

When I switched from diesel to petrol snow monster, for lowish mileage reasons, I also really missed the torque.  Back on diesel now and much happier (although no longer a Yeti)!

Hi dealer website is down so can't order

Ime ordering 1.6tdi greenline in jungle green it's in the uk now so no waiting but will have a 15 plate

I wanted a sat nav but for 700+ no thanks

Good choice.

You will enjoy it.

Jungle Green, a colour that grows on you, like moss... :D

 Hi Federalexpress,

Sincere apologies, I have only just seen your most helpful reply.

1) Yes , I will make a savings of Apprx. the figures you say. Punted around but could not better the price. ETD 20th March.

2) Exactly my sentiments, my wife say a timeless colour! so I stayed with this combi'. Saw photos from other members on another site and was pleasantly surprised.

3. Thankfully didn't need to action.

4) More quiet that the Merc....now that's very reassuring.

Looking forward to getting the car. Just a bit anxious about the "latest" Amunsden Sat Nav as I 've heard of problems viz: navigation details not transferring to the Maxidot and NOT working as described in the brochure. New software upgrade needed etc,...

Finally, on the V5 form are you the first owner, any issues here?

Many Thanks.
