Hi you knowledgeable lot. Just had the car first year service done. Well not much to do other than oil change and wheel rotation. Did a hard acceleration today noticed a little torque steer to the right and also more concerningly a strong smell of burning oil! Too dark to check oil level at the moment but will do so tomorrow.

All contributions gratefully received :0)

It may have been that they spilt some oil and it has found its way to the exhaust. Just a guess.

X2.

The torque steer would probably be exactly that, although by rotating the wheels the way they have worn could have something to do with it until they've found their new 'homes'.

Unless a funnel is used it is inevitable a drop of oil misses the filler hole.

x3 for it getting burnt off. If the smell continues then I'd be more concerned.

Many thanks guys I will wait it out for a day or so.

they might have fogot to put oil filler cap back on - check immediatly - it happened to me once after a Mercedes Main dealer service - made a right mess including the underneath of the bonnet!

Thanks twinHatch

Checked the engine bay, all very clean, cap on securely. Checked tyre pressures all ok.

See what happens next time out.

I was on the motorway when it happen so I suppose there is a remote possibility that the smell of oil was from another car !

I presume it wasn't in the middle of a DPF regen??  You will get a similar smell and sometimes its more noticeable than others

Thanks Superb170 not sure but good thinking!

Errr,

Do you have TPM on the car, iirc the monitors are programmed to each hub and you shouldn't rotate them, hth.

I reckon it was the dpf as well.

I do have TPM. I do not know much about it other than there are two types. If the one I have is programmed to the hub I would have thought the reset button would take of it in much the same way as having a new tyre fitted.

Checked the handbook again and it does advise wheel rotation with aTPM reset afterwards.

When I took then car in the dealer also questioned if the wheels should be rotated. I advised about the handbook and the response was: oh! Ok.

What chance do drivers have of getting it right if the dealers don't know?

Yeah it's not good is it, the lads at National Tyres informed me of it the other week as all new cars this year have to have them apparently, another dashboard light in the making afaic that I don't need
