New Mondeo Titanium Diesel Estate

Featured Replies

....with X-pack

I hate to say it, but I've just priced one of these up fully loaded compared to an equivalently equipped Octavia vRS on Drivethedeal, and the best price was over £2.5k cheaper

Skodas are getting expensive.

Is that the current 177bhp 2.0TDCI Tit-X with powershift vs a CR DSG vRS? They seem pretty well matched on paper mondeo a bit less bhp but bit more on torque although vRS showing as a quarter of a ton lighter. Same VED group and other figures all on power with each other, just the ford being 1 insurance group higher. Has the bigger powered 2.2TDCI been pulled now from this model?

A mate got one last year (TiT X Est with powershift and everything ticked), came with missing trim inside, no nav disc and was in for warranty gremlins within first 2 weeks. After that was sorted was a nice well powered motor. But build quality has as with the MkIII IMO gone down another notch again. At 2.5K less though, it's certainly a far better offer on paper day 1! I wonder what the gap would be after 3 years old from new on average mileage in depreciation and running costs? At that point, I think the gap would have evened out, but how much? A 1 year old of each on book today (as they come before extras) shows a heavier depreciation drop on the Ford over the Skoda, but the fancy Skoda options are crazy expensive and would be a big knock on drop. VAT off offer would make it a winner for the vRS, but would likely loose out as is.

The prices I got were for the 2.0 Duratorq diesel 180, and both in manual form

Ford LED adaptive lighting looks fantastic on the ads

The fancy Skoda ads every 5 minutes don't fund themselves ! ( sorry it's sponsoring itv crime drama , it's a crime at the silly prices !

Do you mean "fund" a crime drama?

That is probably a lot less than sponsoring the TdF.

I was offered an "edge" styled 2.2 sti Mondeo est which was not bad, but in dire need of a DMF, so I passed.

Had a drive in its replacement a couple of months later.  A bit like piloting a well.  Maybe if you're 6'6" it isn't so bad.

I agree that the price of new skoda's is extrortionate but even a 2.5k saving would not push me into a ford mondeo.

Id rather stick needles in my eyes

I wonder what the difference will be after 3yr?

Not being catty I genuinely wonder how they'll stand up against each other for depreciation.

Fords are usually nice to drive but the interiors are a bit of a let down. Not been in a new Mondy or Octy though.

Check out the downloadable brochure on the Ford website, it looks a pretty nice place to be

I know there'll always be Ford haters, as per the post above yours

I always find the interior of a Mondeo to have been the result of an argument between an ex VW designer and an ex Honda designer. Some outrageous splashes of pizzaz surrounded by acres of dark numbness. If Ford stop trying to copy their perception of the class leaders, and instead make the Mondeo something the others are not well it might be interesting. They did it with the Sierra, so it can be done.

There is a review of a Mondeo Titanium estate in this week's Auto car.

I wasnt born a ford hater.

I gave them a chance but i just do not like them in the slightest. Everything is plastic fantastic and cheap. The new interiors on them are absolutely horrible. Buttons everywhere.... Just looks completely stupid. They also love to rust

Just not for me. In the same league as french muck imo

Nowt wrong with the Honda interior. Who doesn't love a game of "Hunt the button", in the dark, while driving?

Got to admit that the 2012 Focus my mum has is a nice drive but the interior feels inferior to Matilda 's (SE 2009 post fl).

I often play hunt the button in the dark, but not whilst driving anymore as we're too old for that

i owned and drove Ford's from 1976 - 2005, but my last Ford, a Mondeo of the day made me jumps ship to Skoda.

Actually, having watched the tv ad for the new mondeo, the exterior looks great, almost jaguar like, and far nicer than the current obsession with curves from BMW and Mercedes. The interior looks like an impressionist painting though.

I dont hate fords, bbut i dont like many of the fleet models we have at work, except the full size transits, and even they are ropey. I just dont trust the things. Too many stupid probelms with them in too short a time frame. Quite a few of the transits (2011 vintage) have given clutch/gearbox issues, esp the a few 4x4 swb ones some of our guys have... i think about mondeos as possible swapper for me octy, as i like the look of each mk as theyve come out over the yrs, until i start thinking about the lists of things  that go wrong. they just dont inspire confidence. I know, skodas aint exactly bullet proof but, ford should be able to do better...

I drove the new Mondeo last year, it's been out in the US for about 2 years and is called the Ford Fusion over there. It seems its been delayed in Europe due to quality problems, the one I hired had touch controls which were not that good, you'd touch perhaps the sat nav section but it would register the radio station needed changing etc. The European version doesn't have the same touch panel so hopefully the button version should be fine. It drove nicely and was quite nice and looked really good especially as it didn't have a front number plate, showing off the front nicely. It was very quiet but so are most new petrol powered cars, and added to the flat smooth roads over there was a nice place to spend some time. The issues they have been having with them are well documented on the internet so hopefully they've now got it sorted for the European market.

The only thing I feel about it is it is effectively a two year old model already, so how long will the production run last here.

I've always liked the Mondeo, though never enough to actually seriously enquire about one, but the thing about recent(ish) Fords is that they spent so much money on sorting out the suspension/chassis (to good effect) they never had much to spend on the inside.

We have an '03 Fiesta Ghia that my daughter uses and every time I use it I'm still impressed by the way it drives (given it's age and mileage (76K)), the ride / handling set up works really well, but the interior . . . . . dear, oh dear! I'm of an age when I can remember what the Ghia badge really stood for and the material quality used in 70's and 80's Cortina's, Capri's and Granada's, etc., was, if not opulent, then at least a step up from Vauxhall / British Leyland / non-BMW/Merc/Audi foreign equivalents. But, as others have commented, these days they're no better than average and even someone like Peugeot manages to make their interiors look a cut above the rest.

From tests I have read, the general consensus seems to be that that the Mondeo is not a major advance on the outgoing model and in some areas (steering feel in particular) it's a step backwards. New engines offer (theoretical) improvements in economy / emissions, but the overall package is much the same.

The bean counters have won in most companies now. So everything has gotten a bit meh.

The 'One Ford' policy seems to be in full flow now so the Mondeo as we call it can be purchased around the world with generally only local laws applying to minor changes depending where it's purchased. Due to the UK roads we usually prefer better suspension and handling, whereas in the US with many smooth roads etc suspension and handling isn't such a high priority, so we seem to be getting the 'global' version.

If you compare the VW Passat sold in Europe to the model sold in the USA its a different car, although there are obviously similarities. Imagine my surprise getting out of my previous Passat with electronic handbrake, then getting into a hired new Passat over there to find a pull up manual handbrake - it's that different. VW group still produce 'regional' versions which despite being similar are actually quite different in varying countries, although I suspect due to cost reasons they will also go down the global route fairly soon.

At last someone else has said Skoda's are getting expensive!!

In all honesty there are a lot of cars out there that once you do some research are just as cheap as an Octavia mk3.

I would like to stay with skoda but unless they drop their prices, better and more premium cars are tempting.

I had a call from the Ford Dealer and i can have a Road Test in the 2.0 Hybrid Auto Saloon 187ps this week.

& the Salesperson has a 2.0 Ecoboost 240ps Auto Titanium Estate as his Daily Driver and we can talk about it

once i give them a try.

Considering the possible discounts on them new,

a Ex Demonstrator will have to be a real good bargain.

We will see.
