Remapped Octy VRS - how quick?

Featured Replies

Well i'm soon to find out but just wondered really? My mate has just had his remapped to 221bhp so should be quick!

Any ideas on 1/4, 0-100 ect?

www.letstorquebhp.com - theyre performance calculator comes up with this based on weight vs power:

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 221

Weight without Driver (KG) : 1354

Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 165.84

0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.56

0 - 100 (Secs) : 16.49

60 - 100 (Secs) : 9.93

Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.93

Terminal Speed (MPH) : 95.17

Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.73

Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 96.82

Well, with 221bhp it'll obviously be quicker than mine...

especially since I know I can improve my reaction times. Although the difference is only 11bhp, and you need progressively (exponentially?) more bhp to reduce the times.

Your estimate at the 1/4 might be close, I can't comment on the others.

I should think 0 - 60 might be quicker, mainly because it can hit 60 in 2nd thereby saving tenths of a second in an extra gearchange (like us diesels have to do)

Quarter mile might be sub 16 seconds too I think.

Autocars original test figures for the RS will give you a pretty good indciation.

Does the weight seem right too? Thats what they state but it seems a bit heavy to me?! I know they must be quite but thats a bit extreme?

My terminal speed was around 95 mph on my 15.5 run... so for a sub-15 second run I'd expect it to be more?

(Brain definately isn't running at 100% at the mo...)

Edit: re. the weight thing. If the weight is 1354, then my mate's rx7 should be lighter. Using the calculator mentioned above, that would make his 400bhp rice-mobile a sub-12 second 1/4 mile beast? Now I know he drives slowly ;) but I reckon I'd be hard pushed to get his car into the high 12's, TBH.

still i know its faster than the a6 i obliterated this morning on the way to work!

14.73 intresting in real life you woudl have to do a very good run to get that... best run ive done fully loaded that with ICE and spare wheel is 15.2sec

i will be trying it totaly stipped out in the near future... i woudl love to see a 14.9 run...the car has it init its down to skill of the driver...i have stripped it out and saved 20 stone in weight... so put me back in there and thats 6 stone lighter then the weight with out driver weight you have there... shoudl be interesting..it was so much quicker on the road stripped out...

These figures may be interesting. Note my car started at 150bhp and ended up at 220, it doesnt have a VRS exhaust either so that may make a very slight difference:

Here we are, each time is the average of 2 runs (the taxiway is on a slight hill). All runs were done on a dry and grippy concrete surface.

Before

20-100 through gears (starting in 1st) - 22.56

30-70 through gears - 8.43

30-70 in 3rd - 10.74

Average MPG over 1611 miles - 29.2

After

20-100 through gears (starting in 1st) - 15.07

30-70 through gears - 6.75

30-70 in 3rd - 8.08

Average MPG over 1632 miles - 27.8

And for those who dont hava a calculator:

20-100 through gears (starting in 1st) - 7.49 faster

30-70 through gears - 1.68

30-70 in 3rd - 2.66

Which, perhaps, on paper doesn't seem like a dramatic improvement 30-70 but is does feel amazingly fast. The 20-100 time was hampered slighty by wheelspin both on initial acceleration and changing up into second.

I think the thing that slows the 30-70 time is the initial lag when you put your foot down. Even the run starting in 2nd has some lag before you're hurled back into the seat.

My previous top speed was 122 and I had hoped to get a new one today, but I dont' trust my standard brakes now! It did reach the same speed with plenty of space left. I would guess that 130 would be achievable.

One slight niggle is the throttle response when you lift off. Say you're cruising and decide to lift off very slightly, the throttle over reacts a little. I think this may be because the map is set up for throttle response on acceleration.

Despite all the furore over the 'was it,wasn't it',they still quote the same figures some four years after the test.

So,according to Autocar, quicker than a lotus elise and a subaru impreza WRX to 100 exactly the same figures as a BMW 330i coupe 0-60 and 0-100 and similar to a Jaguar XK8 4.0  ,except the skoda stops quicker 60-0 :D

No wonder the rumours started

if the weight is right it makes my A4 only slightly heavier

Yes, I remember reading that article. The times they achieved for that press car was quite impressive!

Unfortunately, I remember that they ran another one in the 0-100-0 tests at Santa Pod a few months later and was baffled that they didn't get anywhere near those figures!

I sometimes do think that some of the cars given to the press are not as standard as they should be? I recall the long term Autocar std. Fabia vRS doing 0-60 in 7.2 seconds!
