  • Right...   There's a setting to change the branding from Seat to Skoda or VW, so it's based on the same hardware. There's also a setting to disable the SD card. So I presume the Seat Media System is

Erm not sure need to look in to it more. It's rubbish I could have music on there and have no problems and trying to install an iPod cable.

Don't have any on it as you need to take it apart to put music on it don't you?

What? That should be in the 'funny of the day'.

All the VW RNS510's I've seen have an SD slot bottom centre.

AFAIK copying straight from CD is not possible. Even on the VW units. There's no way they'd make it so you had to open the case (voiding the warranty) just to put music on.

We need a picture!

The new MIB Columbus has it in the glovebox. Is that similar to the Seat one?

Not judging by the connections on the back of the one I saw on eBay:

It is the same as the other RNS510s.

This is my unit.

That one you link to Adam also has the GPS FAKRA connector housing missing!

How would you copy to the HDD if there's no SD slot? VAG wouldn't have an RNS-510 variant just for Seat!

I'm guessing my maps is on HDD as it works. But if you Google HDD for that it will show a guy breaking it down to get to it.

Yes I noticed that. I find it odd too but Mikey's picture looks similar so it does seem to be a different variant.

It's the same as that one on the back. It's rubbish why not just make them the same.

I can't see a single Leon (used that as a typical Seat to search for) for sale with that unit fitted.

They all have three dials at the bottom (RNS-310) or older units or third party units.

As Adam says, the HDD could be for maps only and the CD slot will read CDs with MP3 files on. Wonder if they can be copied from there? Can't on Skoda Columbus units...

I can't remember off the top of my head. Maybe 16gb. Yeah I noticed that as well. It works with MP3 cd's but not tried to copy anything from it. Mines is a 2009.

At 16Gb I doubt it'll take much more than the maps and POI's.

Could explain why these units are (roughly) half the price of a VW RNS-510 or Skoda Columbus.

Okay then. So is it still that software I can put on it?

I am no longer sure you can. Now we have ascertained they are seemingly non-standard units, it is less likely they share the same firmware too. I think the series of firmware may even have different serial numbers from what I can see on the web.

Having said that there is some mention on the 2660 firmware page regarding Seat units on the my-gti.com website. But its only fleeting and only that firmware I think.

Will have a look. I had a company quote me £90 for doing it and up dating maps as well but if could do it myself I will.

That's quite cheap once you factor in the hassle and cost of a map disc.

I'm confused now. Haha. I'll need to keep looking I'm guessing.

That's a Seat Media system, can't recall exactly what they call it. I should think inside it's a standard RNS510 but without the sd card reader connected.  Seat doing things on the cheap again.

Yes more than likely just want to update the whole unit. It's a pain.

Rustynuts knows what he's talking about so I'd go with that info.

For £90 to get a firmware update and latest maps is very good value.

I'd seriously consider that as opposed to the DIY route as there is minimal references to updating firmware on these available.

Rustynuts do you no anything I could do regarding it? Yeah just read email and he said be RNS 510 so emailed back checking as its a seat media system.
