Mechanics

Featured Replies

So I'm a bit of an unhappy chappy and I'm about to send one long letter to Skoda, long story short I don't a) like my local garages attitude towards me as a customer and B) I don't (wouldn't say not trust but I just don't want to leave my car with them) trust them, read it if you want, judge it if you want, I couldn't care either way, I was pushed around a lot when I was younger I don't like to take **** from people (specifically mechanics who look a bit young, not saying they can't do their job, just that there a bit immature and need to grow up some what, after all what did I ever do wrong to them?) I've never complained to any companies before, I've never needed to until now, the garage need to get there arse in gear and hire professional speaking people (who to be honest be rude to customers that are RUDE to them, yes that's right, if a customer is an uptight know it all to me I sure as hell have every right to bitch about them behind there back but fully understand it's rude and wrong to bitch and moan about a customer who has done absolutely nothing to me, not even spoken to me which is why I wouldn't do it) I am tempted to put hidden cameras in the car but I won't be going back there again (at least not to have any mechanical work done) so without further ado, here it goes -

Right, let me get started by first off mentioning this is going to be a complaint, it's nothing towards Skoda, I love my car, it's the way I myself am treated as a customer when the doors are closed and the mechanics are servicing it (I have a dashcam mounted in the car which records audio and sound until of course one of the genius mechanics saw it and turned it off which makes me not trust them even more (I can of course understand if they're worried about privacy)) I've done my fair share of minor tweaks to my car as many enthusiastic car owners do to make it that little bit different (but again the mechanics show no respect to money and costs that go into this and the fact that by me choosing to service my car at the chosen garage I'm effectively paying there wages) and (I'm assuming it was the same off camera) poke fun at myself (frankly a stupid move, I'm sure you get the occasional surprise Audit/Visit every once and a while) let me mention, the standard DRL's were a bit dreary and dull on the car so I upgraded to brighter LED's, this is where it get's exciting you see, the mechanic who was driving my car said "special bulbs for special people" of course his mechanic friend smirked at this remark and well to be honest and not trying to sound rude but I'm not mentally handicapped, I have a full time job (high pay, low hours which is quite good for a 20 year old) and fairly proud to have such a nice car at such a young age and it really does p*ss me off when someone disrespects work I've done to my car (none of this boy racer stuff has been done) I get the whole "be rude about a customer" thing, hell I've done it but there's a key difference here, a customer I'm rude about behind "closed doors" has actually been rude to me and I've never spoken a word to your mechanics, just the service desk staff (who I mentioned earlier are lovely) I think when my next service is due I'll have to use another garage, it's a shame as I do like the one I go to but I am not going to be treated like a retard who has special needs, that's my rant over, just wanted to get this whole thing off my chest, again this isn't me having ago at the guy/girl that's reading through this, it's a rant about the mechanics at my garage

P.s

I've included a video just after this sentence of what I mean (don't worry it's set to private, only whoever clicks the link can view it) I'll be going back to the garage tomorrow and then again Tuesday to have some things looked at (I'm particularly worrying about Tuesday as I'm having to leave the car with the garage until Thursday and because I'm having trust issues with them I worry what will happen/be said about myself or my car)

I've already complained to skoda about my local garage once, wasnt a dm kieth ltd by any chance was it? they practically have a monopoly on the skoda garages and to be honest there pretty **** lol they have no right to say what they said and you should let skoda know that, i certainly did

Give them some fun and superglue the camera connectors in, they sound like scum. The type that don't value their job unlike some of us. Go elsewhere mate

Nope, Westover Skoda, I'd post the video but I'm not a video editor and can't blur out any faces, I may be ****ed off but I'm not an asshole and don't want to show any faces

i dont see the link though

So they were taking the p*** out of your day running light bulbs,

That and the indicators and fogs which are also LED (although to be fair the fogs are really rubbish and don't help out at all, when I'm feeling manly I'll change them)

Well done Hyphons [emoji106][emoji16]

Good for you. This so called "garage" definitely doesn't deserve the Skoda franchise. Westover is a multi franchise group and all there mechanics are next to useless at anything (I've got a ton of proof for that).

I wouldn't even let them pump up a tyre on a bicycle [emoji57]

I worked for Westover back in 1984 when they were just a Rover franchise and were small. They were great then but as soon as they went big then disaster struck. I've known of so many unhappy people who bluntly refuse to go there ever again. I wouldn't trust anyone there.

I bought a brand new Octavia tdi back in 2006 (MK 1) and they couldn't even service it without breaking it and also damaging it which they denied. I had to get rid of the car in 18 months because they completely screwed it up. I bought my MK 2 Octavia brand new and moved to Meadens in Sway. A family run business that are 100% brilliant. I have a great relationship with them now after 8 years.

Anyway I wish you luck and please do persue this to the end. It's extremely bad customer relations.

Keep us informed [emoji106]

I'm perfectly fine with them having a laugh, there is a difference between mucking around and being an asshole to a customer you've never met (need I mention they said I'm "special") if I didn't want them to "muck around" I would've have complained last year when one of the mechanics was jokingly honking at his mate and trying to run him over in my car (also I'll mention they stated it "stank like ****ing Mcdonalds" in my car, yes I'd just had lunch) but I didn't because that was just horsing around and I couldn't really care about that

Believe me you don't know what they're like. I've been a mechanic too for 7 years in my past work life but we weren't like what this shower are.

They have the Nissan franchise too just a few yards up. I pity the guy who takes his £70K GTR in for a service [emoji57]

Of course not, otherwise it would be Eastover :P (the joke being Japan is to the east where Nissan are)

Reminds me of a dealer I used once when buying a used car, when questioned about what oil they used in my car they said, "I don't know but we use it in all our cars, it comes in a big drum" and that was from the service manager. They stole something out of the boot of the car also, never gone there again. Must add it wasn't a Skoda dealership.

Hyphons, don't use them again and complain, it's the only way.

Hmm...

LED fog lights, they may have a point. Seriously, I always find the most effective way of complaining is to vote with my feet and tell the dealer principle why. Shoddy work or horsing around in my car are both good reasons to complain IMO. A bit of **** taking that you where accidentally party to could be deemed offensive, but to be fair, you did give them fuel for the ribbing.

First I thought was it so bad thing to say really. Then again I guess it depends what was the atmosphere at that moment. If it's depressing and/or mocking, then it's not right. Words can be said so many ways. Nicely or less nicely.

I don't know about 'fuel for the ribbing',  I think that's grossly unjustified.

I have customers who come into my work, plenty of whom I could pass comment on whether it be something as simple as how rude they are. I don't, it's not appropriate, and a customer is a customer. If you're a business, there is no such thing as 'fuel for a ribbing'. If any person or business believes there's something which warrants a ribbing, then they're not fit to work in business; end of.

What Hyphons has done is style his car with minor details, something which a vast population of car enthusiasts do on a day-to-day basis. If what you're saying is that something that isn't to one person's taste warrants a 'ribbing' - as you so put it - then what we will have is a nationwide case of every mechanic ribbing any driver who hands in their car with its idiosyncrasies. Picture that, then allow me to disavow you of any false illusion that this is in any way a good thing; it is not.

If it were me, I'd go into the branch in person and asked to speak to the manager. Sometimes, you have to make yourself noticed to actually get somewhere. It's poor that a garage would allow people of that puerile demeanor to work on someone's car.

Take the memory card into the dealer and show them what their techs did. Nothing like doing it face to face to get a reaction. Just don't walk away without letting them know your displeasure.

I happen to have the video saved in favourites on youtube

I must admit I would have gone in and complained first. Then if that did not get a satisfactory conclusion I would have posted it to Youtube

The video is set to the "only those with the link mode" the only people watching is Skoda UK and me

im missing the point hyphons?

a) "long story short.. " no it wasnt ;) <- thats me being funny.

b : so they didnt speak to you, its a recording behind the closed doors of the service unit? one they werent aware of being recorded? not sure you are allowed to record without permission, but thats not my point.

- i dont understand whats offensive? they dont like DRLS and they laughed at them and the sort of people that fit them?

It wasnt directed at you, it was generic private ( assumed) banter- and im fine with people having an opinion different to yours or mine. (this is me having my right to disagree too) - it was a private conversation.

c) drl's are dangerous, brighter ones are more dangerous. they obscure the view of motorbikes travelling on front of cars. I dont agree with them one bit.

If you go around with a recording device then I'm afraid you are going to find things that you never needed to know and get u necessarily upset.
