what gives the best gain and what is cheapest?

Thinking bout an exhaust too.

Oops forgot Superchips :D

You're best off doing a search and reading a few previous threads. Best gain can be a subjective thing, and everybody will want to advertise their favourite tuner.

You could start by reading this article, which, although a bit out of date now, does give a good grounding.

As Nick says do a search on the names he's listed and you should find plenty to read.

Cheapest is possibly Upsolute or maybe even 'Red I Tuning' who sell remaps through ebay.

It is better not to get hung up on figures....whilst these are good for down the, Pub they don't not necessarily translate into a good drive.

Would recommend you go for a custom remap....whilst generic off the shelf are now pretty good they are not specific to your engine...all engines due have slight variations.

Also if you are thinking about doing other mods...exhaust etc...do these first then have the remap, which will then take them into consideration.

Cost....depends if you go for generic or custom...generic is generally cheaper because it doesn't take any where as long as a custom map, which can take between 3-4 hours.

Exhaust...what you want to get out of it...power, sounds or looks?

For peformance you'll have to go for a turbo back system...has a freer flow downpipe, sport cat....costs between

just for the record i went to jabba....before figures were 191bhp after 228bhp i had a diffrent exhast on comaired to Boyced and pimpster who also went to jabba they came out with the same bhp but i had marginly better tourque figures ... but had higher bhp to start with... that coudl be down to the miles on the cars though mine have +30k more then theres, all losened up..

at 400 something pounds its not really alot money for the gains to be had when you can spend double that on exhuats intercoolers air filters and still not come away with that percentage of power increase...on the whole the custom remap is the most cost effective way of getting quick and value for money power gains... my advise would be uless you want increse exhuast note just get the remapp done...save the exhuast for later...

i just had mine jabba'd and it now stonks it, but i have a engine mangement light on (not saying its jabba fault) but if i want to take it back i have a 6 hour round trip but worst of all a

Dont think you'll find too many people on here that have been unhappy with their re-maps reguardless of who did it.

If cost is the main issue - go with the cheapest or

If you just want the best bhp readout on the rollers then its pot luck really as no two cars (or two rollers for that matter) seem to give the same results.

Whomever you choose you wont be dissapointed!

so custom is the way then, do you reckon ill be able to pick up a second hand exhaust?

Second hand performance exhausts are rare for the Octavia. More common are VRs exhausts but that isnt' much use to you.

Check out the For Sale & Wanted section of these forums.

However Blueflame often have Octavia exhausts for a good price on ebay so maybe worth keeping an eye on there.

As remaps are software-based, they have moved on over the times as well. Those who are at the forefront of VAG tuning will more-than-likely have spent more time fine-tuning the maps to get either smoother, less-fuel-hungry, or more powerful, or all of the above, pushed to what the car/engine can take.

A custom map rather than a generic one WILL make the most of your car/engine/requirements, but at a premium. A tuning box may be an option worth considering if you don't want to spend too much, and want it easily reversed.

Slowly but surely I am building up my parts list, BlueFlame left me a message yesterday so that looks like it is going to be soon :) - once I've got the Eibach springs/dampers in I will get the insurance sorted & get it booked in for fitting/remap :)
