Someone hurt my rapid :(

Featured Replies

I can't believe it but late on Friday night a young lady reversed off her drive straight in to the front of my rapid that was parked under a street light (and is white) opposite. At first glance she's cracked the front bumper but today I've noticed that both of the bumpers have dents in them... ... so frustrating :(

Oh no! Really sorry to hear that - what the hell is it with people.

Sorry to hear this, I always worry when I park mine anywhere.

Exact same thing happened in our culdesac, I am opposite the offending driver, I never have to leave mine on the road thankfully, but I think she's learnt her lesson.

I'm completely gutted, my insurance company gave me the third degree before even asking about what had happended - I feel really let down by them and I'm worried it will affect our premium next year, even though it totally not our fault. I'm also concerned about getting it rectified. It's a white car and will need a new front bumper and both wings. I don't want a car that has a half job repair done. Does anyone know what I can expect to be done?

Insurance will likely replace the bumpers and wings (if they can't be easily re shaped) - annoyingly the default position of insurance repairs is to replace rather than repair, even when repair is the better option. It is why perfectly serviceable cars get written off as uneconomical to repair (not a risk on this occasion though.)

Do you have protected no claims bonus? Your premium will go up either way, but if you have protected NCB then the hit will be much lower.

Also, who is your insurer?

I had a repair done a few years ago after quite extensive damage. The job was very well done in fact it was close to impossible to see the repaired area when the job was finished. The car was around five years old at the time yet the paint matching was close to perfect. When I traded it in for another Fabia the salesman wanted to buy the car for his daughter , I didn't remember to tell him about the repair and he didn't notice. I must add that the damage was extensive but cosmetic it wasn't anything that would compromise safety !

Hastings, she is with Churchill (who I've not contacted yet).

I'd have thought that the damage is also cosmetic but who knows these day with cars being designed to fold. As I said I thought it was just the bumper then the next morning (in the light) I can see both wings have dimples in them. I was surprised the bumper cracked like if did... The joys of plastic I guess.

Anyway, thanks all for your kind words, input and experience. It's so annoying that we're penalised for someone else's mistake!

Well I have signed up for Ensurance, thanks  skoda 1982, we will see how that works or hopefully not !

Thanks. Pleased to say that it was repaired within a week, and the gentleman who caused it had the decency to wait until I got back to the car to inform me.

Great news[emoji106]

There are still some decent people around then [emoji15]

I didn't go down the skoda ensurance route but Churchill contacted me and were to date very good. She had admitted liability and so they just wanted to get it sorted. Its booked in for tomorrow with a local accident repair shop that is approved by them (so I get a 5 year warranty on the work they carry out) and enterprise (other companies are available) are collecting me from the accident repair shop before taking me to their office to finish some paper work on the hire car. The accident repair shop had an online system so I had to take a few photos of the damage and a short video of the car so they could order the parts before I take it in. I'm still apprehensive about the whole repair thing but it'll be ok I'm sure. My question now is will my car be registered as having an accident?

Yes, but it should be nothing to worry about, as a logged accident repair has no real resale impact (it's mostly for insurance premium & fraud purposes only). It only matters if the car was classified a Cat C or D write-off.

Nothing is recorded anywhere, not on HPI or any other database, that only happens if the car is a total loss and the insurer payout to you in full.

Not so - all insurers log and share data with each other on all accident claims and repairs (as stated above, this is predominantly for premium calculation and fraud prevention purposes, but it is also one of the data sources the industry makes available in bulk to third parties - for a price). Right now the main buyers of this data are research companies and government departments studying accident rates etc. However, as we have both stated, it's only write-off classifications that publicly stain the record of a car.

This info comes from my dad, a senor exec at one of the UK's largest independent insurance underwriters.

I'm sure it would be logged some where, in the same breath, I am sure my insurance will go up - even though it wasn't our fault and we weren't in the car! We've had a couple of non-fault accidents in the last few years, it's so frustrating that due to other people's lack of concentration my wife and I get stung!

And accident claim companies.

I know as it wasn't until I had quotes from such insurance companies as Admiral that I started getting these cold callers asking about accident claims, my daughter too as it was for her car I got the quotes, with my details as well as hers. She started getting a frequent amount of cold calls at more or less the same time as me, and sometimes on the same days.

Hospital A&E are also suspicious of this, my wife has never had any cold calls personally about accident claiming, until last year after she had visited an A&E. I could go on but none of these so called cold calls, emails, texts are coincidences and I have been registered with the TPM for a number of years.

Sadly it will go up, even though you were not at fault. If you have protected No Claims Bonus, this will take the edge off the amount your premium goes up by, but contrary to common belief, protecting your NCB will not completely nullify the impact on a premium of having made a claim.

The only claim you can make on your insurance that 'usually' won't impact on your renewal premium is a replacement windscreen.

Mines hurt as well..Very annoying that an HGV flicked up two half brick size stones as he passed me which flew like missiles into my front bumper and drivers side wing!

Result is a crack in front bumper and bulge with deep dent in wing which body shop say will have to be replaced, the bumper can fortunatly be repaired.
