alternator question - abs/pas warnings

Looking at this page, it's either an -E or -J suffix, depending on whether the last 6 digits of the VIN are </=725552, or >/=725553 (Item 19 or 19A) . As I can't see a 90A alt for a 2003 AZQ-code engine, I assume the engine is code AWY, the 6-valve 54bhp version?

PM me if it is the J-suffix, I'm sure we can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Cheers will be in touch, yes it's an AWY 40kw engine. Thanks again ☺

Well, took alternator off and it had a 70a unit with no valeo marking or number on the regulator like your unit, Wino. My local parts place also listed it as a 90 amp so I bought a new (recon) 90A and fitted it. Charging is now okay but abs light is still on...

Checked continuity of the wires from alternator - they don't go via a plug on the gearbox as described in other threads. They go into the engine loom and come out at a plug with about 12 wires in it on the nearside inner wing. Anyway wires okay as far as there, so it's back to the drawing board re the abs light, vcds check required.

Well done for sorting out the charging anyway.  :)

Have you, or your son driven it since changing the alt? ABS light tends to stay on until the car has physically moved a bit, even when faults are corrected.  I suspect you're right though, scan time.

Yes, tried driving it but abs light stays on....

  • 2 weeks later...

Its defo an ova charge should be around the 14.2 but no higher.

  • 1 month later...

Just to update this if anyone else has similar issues, vcds scan revealed n/s/f abs sensor fault, renewed and now all okay. ☺
