Octavia vRS or Mustang 5.0 V8?

Featured Replies

Serious question, if running costs aren't an issue

I was in my local dealer the other day and they had a fully loaded Mk3 vRS Octavia estate diesel with a manual box with an RRP of over £33,000

Which just happens to be the RRP of a new right-hand drive Ford Mustang 5.0 V8

Yes, totally different body shapes for different uses, but the sheer thought of being able to get something with that sound for the price of an Octavia, to me at least, is simply staggering

Then you see that it's about £1049 per year to tax it, which takes the shine off a bit, and the fuel bill, hence my comment at the outset 'if running costs are no object'

  • My bad. Anyone who spends £33k on an Octy (£18k depreciation as soon as you drive it?) need to be tested for illegal substances.

  • Couldn't I just have two Skylines instead?

  • Maybe these things are more burbling cruisers.   Saw the "classic car show" on the players the other evening with teh guy going round London in a Corvette Stingray. I'm sure it handles like a drunk

if running costs are no object then there's no decision to make. mustang all day long, without hesitation :)

100% Mustang.

If running cost weren't an issue, surely a derv Octavia wouldn't be on the list to begin with......

I only mentioned running costs, I deliberately steered clear of opening it up to initial buying cost

100% vrs a mustang would be nice but the octy will last longer

because VAG? for realsies?

Mustang every time. They're 10 leagues apart in terms of drama, looks and power.

No, Richard, they're not an option in this particular thread :P

Nor is any other option either, before anyone starts

Only £1049 for the first year, then falls to £500 per year after that.

It would be the V8 everytime for me, that's why I drive a 3.7 V8 now.

Certainly interested in a V8 upgrade from my V6...... wow!

Thanks for posting - it certainly makes you think - seeing Oct vRS's reach this sort price.

When i think i got my new Mk2 vRS in 2008 with every option excluding satnav at £18k!!

Hadn't spotted that - that makes it a much easier choice :)

The £1049 should be included in the purchase price too.

It always has been in my experience.

If the RRP is the on the road price you would like to think so yes, I'll have to download the price list to check that

When are you taking delivery?

Can I have a go? :)

Answer, yes it does, and it's Band M for VED, which is where I got the £1049 from....didn't realise it reduced as Manny mentioned though, which improves things substantially

You clearly haven't bought enough cars with daft power outputs. :D

This is a good point. The mustang will probably depreciate much slower, so it might actually be a similar price to run when you take all the costs into consideration, unless you do alotttt of miles.

I don't think many of us have!

JRJG

Mustang.

I actually use the boot space occasionally, but even so, Mustang! particularly if you can get one in "Bullitt Green".

And two years before that I bought my Mk1 Octavia vRS brand new with 7 miles on the clock for £12500!  Same name, same brand but totally different league nowadays.

Go on, you know you want to :)

But then who wouldn't?

An older Mustang burbles past our road end most days, and you can tell what it is from way off.......you certainly don't get that with a diesel Octavia
