Octavia vRS or Mustang 5.0 V8?

Featured Replies

Only driven a 70's one - in the seventies.  It was so definitely NOT, repeat NOT a sports car, or even sporty as any European would understand.  More like a 4 wheeled Harley, without the refinement.

The window not winding all the way down on the new one is going to be a mega problem.  Can you properly cruise n pose without dangling your arm?

They may have improved the interior which was so plasticky, the old one made a Datsan 120Y feel plush.

I presume they have the Modular V8, not too difficult to get 500hp, so at least you'd get your money's worth tax wise.

I'd get which ever depreciates least and flog it and get a proper road legal Manx Norton -  http://www.stevetonkinclassics.com/   About the same £££££££££.  For the least tarted up version.

  • My bad. Anyone who spends £33k on an Octy (£18k depreciation as soon as you drive it?) need to be tested for illegal substances.

  • Couldn't I just have two Skylines instead?

  • Maybe these things are more burbling cruisers.   Saw the "classic car show" on the players the other evening with teh guy going round London in a Corvette Stingray. I'm sure it handles like a drunk

Do muscle cars really handle that bad?

I've never driven a muscle car (shame), but I was reading a review of the Pontiac GTO from the 1960s, and it had 6.7 turns of steering from lock to lock!! :o

The E30 is considered a slow car (but European standard I guess) and that's 4 turns l-t-l. It's still over 50% faster than the GTIO. (I've got a replacement e46 steering rack which is 3t l-t-l, so should be better)

Anyway, I guess the point I'm trying to make is 6.7t l-t-l is not the thing of a sports car!

6.7 turns. Wtf!

And the Americans have a reputation for being abit chubby.

Get some corners over there, they'll be fit as fiddle in no time!

A Morris Ital from the 80s wasn't much better....

I owed, albeit very briefly, a 2012 Mustang 5.0 and it was crap. I really wouldn't advise spunking 33k on a new one unless you intend to keep it for a long time and don't mind a cheaply made car. They don't seem to have any issue with build quality but rather it's the material they actually made the parts out of. Perhaps the new one is better, I haven't driven it yet.

I had a Camaro SS too which was somewhat better, and at least handled reasonably well. The Challenger has a more up market interior out of the three but handles truly boat like and is massive.

OK so you have a big american muscle car with lots of power & decent straight line speed, all the headlines that sell this type of vehicle.

What is it like to use day to day?

Or the reality is, even the weekend toy you have bought cannot be used to the full potential, precisely the reason you bought it in the 1st place?

Now what do you do?

Based on the O/P original question, I would have neither.

I'd also watch the depreciation on the Mustang too, wouldn't be pretty. Noise the Mustang for sure, not sure how they handle now like most of the above but the noise they make is lovely.

The OP question was which one of the the two would you rather have, there was no third option :)

I've driven the 3,6 V6   (but convertible) and it was about as pokey as my Fabia vRS

was give or take. Nice enough car to drive and all that. Nearly drove it off of a cliff on

Highway 1 into the Pacific but that is another story...

Mustang all day long.

More theatre, more character, more style and miles more presence.

Octavia is just another eurobox.

I dont care how much it depreciates, only people with too much money buys new  :$$$:, so if its nearly 3 years old and 18 grand thats fine by me and will not go down that much after that
