People with VRS'| Been told there has been a recall/Service Campaign | Gearbox Oil Change

Featured Replies

Some of you may remember my thread about Removing Coilpacks as my EML light kept coming on and sometimes limp mode.  Then my latest thread Probably wasn't coilpacks however I didn't and still haven't checked those wires as I've been busy.  I was reading another thread the other day un-related to my problem and it was mentioned to write to Skoda UK (http://www.skoda.co.uk/) so I thought id put my 2p's worth into them on Friday 13th and low & behold I got a phone call yesterday (Monday 16th) advising me that there has been a recall for my car (2010 VRS) for the gearbox oil to be changed from either Synthetic --> Mineral or Mineral --> Synthetic but I think it's the former.  They (Skoda UK) gave me details of a local garage Auto Sales Group that will carry out the works free of charge and bill Skoda.   So in a couple weeks time I'm hoping my troubles will disappear.  but I suggest that you all do the same even if you're not getting this problem.

its only a recall on a select few vrs mines a 2012 and apparently mine doesn't qualify

You were told recall? Or you were told 'service campaign'? Mine was done ages ago, same with majority on here I think.

The bloke I spoke to said recall not service campaign.

That just sounds like the gearbox oil service campaign but with poor wording. From what you're describing they just change the oil from synthetic to mineral, as they did on many of us that had this done already, they're not recalling anything are they?

Where is he when he's needed?

Where is he when he's needed?

Lol...

I wouldn't worry too much. As I said it just sounds as somebody found out lately about this whole gearbox oil thing and panicked. How is what the OP describes different than the service campaign almost a year ago?

Its just a service campaign, its been round for a while now!

Seems to only affect early cars. Mine was one of them. It's just precautionary as they found in hot conditions the DSG oil was getting too hot and causing havoc.

It's not just early cars. My June 2011 has been done, as has my Dad's 63 plate. It's not a recall as there's no safety issue. Some people might get scared at losing drive, but if you're old enough you've lost drive through a failed engine/gearbox/clutch at least once. I've counted and this has happened at least 6 times in 20 years of driving.

This is very old news, just a service campaign. THERE IS NO RECALL lol!

Mine was done months ago.

Where is he when he's needed?

He's not here, but here's one he made earlier and left for us

"The Service Campaign is from May 2014 on the DSG,

& the Dealership Computer should show if required.

Synthetic Oil Changed to Mineral oil and a ECU Update."

Well I was told it was a recall so im sticking to that. :finger:

George buggered off on some nice hols somewhere I believe :)

Mine is Nov 2012 CTHE motor and had no service campaign nor any ECU updates. It does drink oil

Yeah it's mainly early Fabia II VRS' and gearbox oil rather than normal oil.

My '12 CAVE wasnt subject to the gear oil campaign but did have an ECU update , not picked up by the dealer but the AA/RAC Skoda assist chap who fixed it after a rat ate the wiring loom

LOL. a rat ate your car?

Yep , little b*gger ate the coil pack wiring , we have had mouse trouble in the Superb as well , one ate the gear lever gaiter to get in the cabin and chewed hell out of it , also chewed under the bonnet but nothing critical in that case

Wow, looks like South Oxfordshire has a bit of a rodent problem or you keep cheese in your cars ;):D. Looks like you need a cat or two :)

Not normally a problem but caught 8 so far , next door have chickens plus there were lots of floods last year so they moved

My Fabia was just above the high tide mark

Don't need one I have an air rifle ;)

You'll get away with that because he's not around lol, however he would want one of us to point out how careful Skoda were to avoid using the phrase recall at any point with regard to this work on changing DSG oil for certain cars, but not for all. It was Skoda UK that insisted on the terminology Service Campaign, not George.

In the scheme of things however all that matters is that owners check to see if they should have had it done, Skoda will hopefully tell them or perhaps a friendly dealer can assist.
