Remapped Octy Vs. Standard Scoobie (drag race predictions)

Featured Replies

My octavia rs only has a dv, cai and tip. On sunday I raced the old shape impreza wrx and impreza type ra, both heavily tuned, didnt stand a chance. they have an awesome take off, its possible with a remap you could beat a normal wrx providing your reaction time and take off is spot on and your gear changes are within the powerband.

Hmmm - dodgy launch then 2nd gear was suffering from fly-by-wire annoyingness - ah well very good effort :D

Is your gearbox different to a vRS ?

 If you read my post' date=' i clearly stated that my stock car was just about there or there abouts as quick as a WRX bug eye [225hp']. Now i have a RICA remap i am in STI teretory [265 hp]

So wind your neck in !

:D

I was quite impressed with the launch - 3rd to 4th change seemed to be the turning point - Phil was ahead well into 2nd gear.

Gearbox is the same - why?

I must be knocking on the door of 200bhp, and 400+nm of torque, and from experience, even the lowliest of scooby's will f**k me over on a standing start. Up and running though, it's a whole new ball game...... I wont bore you with the details, mainly cos I cant be bothered putting the ensuing flames out, but I have suprised myself 30mph +. Scooby badgering on the motorway is fun too :D I gave up Lambo badgering. Wasn't working out for me

being honest i thought it would have been much closer than that.

good effort tho :)

Its from a 2 yr old canon stills camera so its not going to be anything too fancy - played fine on my media player.

You need the Motion JPEG (MJPEG) Codec to play it.

Can I have a go. :D

kinda what i expected to be honest, think you did well really considering the traction and power advantage he had :)

can i come over so we can do a remaped elegance 1.8T Vs. a remaped elegance 1.8T 4x4 :)

Would not be that much of a power advantage if it was a standard WRX, 225 ish + 4wd transmission losses (and it's a Wagon not a saloon so a tad heavier)probably put it around even with a remapped octy. Scoobs just "hook up" so much better if the driver gets it right.

On my old 03 WRX PPP you had to get to about 5k for an eargrinding clutch toasting rapid start :-)

The old Wagon did do well in the vid though, as did the octy, a lot of scoobie owners would be mega p&ssed off knowing they "only just" beat a skoda :-)

Fluff

Should have stuck to "I already beat you once, don't want to embarrass you again"

Good effort though, the Scoobies tend to be held in low esteem due to the number of knackered ones out there - there's not much on here that'd stick with one in good fettle, as you just showed.

You'd have had him in the twisties though

i think he did well though, an average family hatch with nothing but a re-map nearly keeping up with a high-ish level impreza. good effort i say :)

You'd have had him in the twisties though

If you'd read Scoobynet, you'd know the Scooby is king of the twisties :P:rofl:

Now, race him again in the wet ;)

Chris

If he gets a good start in the Scoob you will struggle to catch it below 100mph IMO. As it's a blobeye and a wagon it's carrying about 200kg more than a classic scoob so that will slow it up a bit. :)

However, dont for a minute think Scoob's are easy to launch because they aren't. Too few revs or let the clutch up too fast and it will bog down, too many revs or slip the clutch too much and the clutch wont bite and will leave a nasty smell in the car.

Will all depend on the driver and the launch IMO.

And as for a Standard vRS Furby keeping up with a WRX. PMSL

i he a tried and tested method for launching my 4x4 and it goes like this:-

1) revs tits off car

2) drop clutch

works a treat for me

Sounds just like my old WRX :-)

A bucket full of revs and drop the clutch isn't the fastest way to launch a standard scoob unless it's got an AP clutch or similar.

Does work for clearing the clutch judder problem that some scoobs suffer though.

Haven't see the vid yet but my initial thought would be...

from standstill Scooby should have edge on you due to superior traction so upto around 80-90mph Scoob should have built a bit of a lead on you...from 90mph onwards peformance should be pretty much level pegging.

However as the initial lead has been already built I doubt you would pull it back.

From a rolling start I imagine things may have been a little difference where the Scoobs intial traction edge would be negated.

Like I said haven't see Phil's clip yet...just my initial gut feeling.

from the video it looks like the Scooby gets ahead and continues slowly edging away.

being honest i was a little surprised as i had a few run ins with the classic shape scooby and my mapped octy did come out on top. obviously this is a different car but still.

as for traction, your method works with me 2 ;) not that i try it much.

The Scoob didn't get a good launch, he should have murdered you in the first two gears.

Cheers

Lee
