Suddenly broke down....

Featured Replies

Hi!

I've just bought a Superb 2.0 PDTDI 2009 today and was very happy until now...I was going home and turning into a small street in 4th gear with less than 2000rpm and the engine suddenly stopped. I tried to restart it but no signal, no lights, no response. It was all dead. I could start the engine after 5 mins but all the check lights stayed on for a while and then everything worked well like before. Can you give me some advice to find out this problem? I don't want to relive this in the middle of nowhere:/

I'm not very technically minded, but it sounds very similar to a problem I had on a Mini about 45 years ago, which suddenly stopped with no power, electrics, etc.  I left it for 5 minutes and it started again and it was fine.  I replaced the battery and the problem never reoccurred, so the problem could be the battery?

4th gear for a slow speed residential corner sounds too high?

Could it be possible the engine stalled?

The battery on the MkII Superb is a well documented weak point. The battery fitted from new is often not up to the job, the specs are too low. Is it the original battery (take a picture and post it on this thread, we can tell if it is the original).

When the battery is disconnected (for whatever reason), when it is re-connected all of the lights you mention on the dash do appear, and eventually disappear as the car is driven a short distance.

I think you stalled the car and the battery has struggled to restart the engine straight away.

Change the battery mate for a more powerful one and your problem will disappear as Silver1011 mentioned the battery is the weak point on the car.

As above. I also found that the Superb is very reticent to function if you are in the wrong gear. Slow residential turn = 2nd gear (possibly 3rd). If you are in 4th you will stall every time

Thanks for your help, I will take a pic asap about the battery, It is 73Ah. Although the dealer said that the battery was replaced to a new one because the car had been standing for 8 months.
