Almost parted with my 7 months old Black Edition

Featured Replies

After getting few quotations through CarWow for an Audi A4 I got really tempted to go for it. So here are the numbers;

Audi A4 2.0 TDIe 136PS SE Technik (satnav, leather heated seats, parking plus cruise control, metallic paint) - Actual cost - £29,450. Discounted price - £22,400 on a 7% PCP.

They are giving £14,000 for my BE and with £2000 deposit it is coming as £360/month and I am paying £190 for my Skoda.

Cons

- New A4 is due soon

- Tad bit boaring to look

- Out dated interior and tech

- Not very good on fuel

Pros

- its an Audi

- Value for money

- Lots of extras

Did I do the right thing by saying no?

Saurabh

Only you know if you've done the right thing, but it doesn't strike me as being a fantastic deal tbh, and monthly payments aren't far off twice what you are pay I no at the moment.

That looks like an awful deal - you've suffered the steepest part of the depreciation curve now with your Octavia and you want to start over again with the Audi, on a higher rate of interest and undoubtedly a fairly large balloon at the end.

Thanks for your input Chappers. Much appreciated..

Strangely, I enjoyed my Black Edition more on my way back from Audi stealer. ;-)

Not a great deal if I'm honest.

I think your con list is justification enough to walk away!

No problem!

That's why I love it too!

Stick with the Octy for another year, you will more likely be in a better part of your finance deal.

Plus car deals are only going to get better and better as our economy improves....

"Its an Audi "

I have had several Audi's

I have also had my brain put back in !

Stick with the Skoda matey, much better value for money and Audi, Bmw and Merc drivers are looking at Skoda as a quality brand now as a rival. According to my dealer anyway.

Yes you were right to walk away. I have a 2.0tdie Teknik with the 136ps engine. Apart from the weak engine, the driving position is very poor in the manual car with pedals heavily offset to the right. The clutch is directly beneath the steering column. Don't lose any sleep over it.

Yes, I did find the pedals were bit offset but the dealer said you get use to it (strange). I also found the steering wheel bit vague as well.

I am quite happy with my Octy and thanks once again for your inputs.

I was looking at A4's before I placed the order for the Octavia and that was one of the reasons why I didn't go with an A4, found the positioning of the pedals awful!!

At 7% it doesn't seem that good a deal to me- twice the monthly payment but it's not twice the car? My view (and it only that) is the cooking models are over rated and seem to attract a certain type of driver that you may not want to be associated with (OOTAMYWAYIMCOMMINGTHROUGHIMTOOIMPORTANTTOWAITMYTURN). The Octy by comparison is a bit of a 'blender in' which has its benefits, and is loads cheaper. as above not the tiem to bail when you've lost a good chunk on money on the BE.

I can concur with the seating / pedal position - I had an A4 and had many issues with my back as a result. Colleagues with the A6 have also suffered.

It's an Audi as a pro hahaha

I always wanted an Audi S4, so when I first started to look around at what to replace my Mk1 VRS with, the first stop was an Audi dealer.

I took an 8 month old S4 for a road test, 3.0 V6 supercharged (340ish bhp), flappy paddles (S-tronic my dear, not the cheap DSG, to quote the dealer), all the bells and whistles.

When we got back from the test drive the little dream bubble that I had above my head popped!

Totally and utterly disappointed, the car just had no feedback/character  .

Fantastic power, grip, brakes etc etc but just no interaction.

The following day I test drove a manual Tdi Octy Vrs hatch, and now I'm waiting for my new 2.0TSI manual VRS to be built and delivered, on schedule to collect 1st-2nd week of April

"(S-tronic my dear, not the cheap DSG, to quote the dealer)"

I would have walked away then... They're the same thing!!

i was offered a 2.0 tdi 177 s tronic black edition a4 avant with a 6k discount when looking at alternates after my first mk3 vrs was written off, liked the car but did not fall in love with it, yes it was an audi but at the time you couldn't get heated seats (dealer told me i could get it fitted aftermarket for about 300 quid) and the tech felt average for a supposed premium brand and when i got into my current vrs it felt no worse a place to be and i could have a full winter pack etc.

plus on my daily commute most of the aggressive, poor and dangerous drivers on the a roads and motorways are either mid level bm 3 or 5 series or mid level a4 or a6 and I was pleased with my decision not to be tarred with the same brush as these specimens

Offset pedals are the most common cause of lower back problems.

Stick with the Octy for now and enjoy the space and easy maintenance.

If you want more premium wait 6-12 months and aim for a good deal on Mk3 Superb, preferably the 190 bhp diesel :)

Wise decision Saurabh.

The A4 is a good car but its now old tech and is due to be replaced later this year.

I guess if I were in the market for a new car and was offered a high spec S-line Ultra at huge discount it would be of interest but not 7 months into an existing PCP on what is effective an SE spec car with heated leather and nav...that trim level is really targetting fleet buyers and IMHO doesnt make for the most desirable A4. I certainly wouldnt want to put 2k down and be spending £360/month on one.

Production manager at work ordered a 2.0TDI Technik A4 Avant and to be honest the Skoda interior is better, the switchgear and layout in the A4 isn't that great (and I love Audi's).  Significantly less space than my Octy hatch and nothing special to look at either.  You need the S Line kit to add that little bit extra externally.

If you're getting itchy feet due to wanting more performance then get yours chipped.  If you're wanting a different shape car then nothing but a different car will cure that.

Switching on traffic programmes is appalling - three menus to get to it. Sat nav is not interactive on mine so if you're in a traffic jam, it does not readjust for waiting time etc. Too many buttons, small in the back and no refrigerated glovebox.

I won't miss mine too much and am looking for a B8 Passat, MK3 Superb or even a Golf GTE hybrid.
