VW Santana "Spaceback"

Featured Replies

The lead time for delivery on the Dacia was too long, needed a car sooner, so opted for an ex demo Spaceback.

I didnt really mean anything to do with the quality in particular. I just think the latest VW front ends look trash. I am actually a fan of the Skoda front ends hence why I bought a rapid notchback :-). I dont have a problem with the quality of it at all and take it for what it is considering the price......

However I do have a problem with that VW version hehehe (And the new golf for that matter).

The problem seems to be that obviously VW want to retain the VW look across all of their models but it just doesn't work on this one.

I've never been 100% on the front end of the Rapid, the rear and sides look great IMO. Need to try something with the grille, either all black or all chrome

I agree the front of the Santana/Rapid/Toledo looks a bit gopping -especially in its VW form.

At least with the Seat the front is broken up a bit to make it more interesting and the Skoda goes further by bleeding the bonnet into the grill (though the grill seriously needs some more chrome on it - or none at all - either way the amount of chrome on the standard Rapid grill looks odd).

The VW front is fugly and the rims look too small -

The leather interior looks better than anything in a Rapedo though.

Where's the Jetta?

Obviously the people at Superskoda thought it needed more chrome too

They're doing a proper kit for it here so it'll save me making a bodge job. Just under 35 clams plus postage but I'll be waiting until the next 20% off sale to get myself a set

Then how far do I go? lower grille chrome bits, wing mirror caps, door handle covers, tailgate strip and load protector, sill covers? Nah, I think that's all it needs.

Love it

OOOOhhhh lovely.

Does it come with a BUICK bonnet badge and signature triple vents for the bonnet sides.

I think less is more - prefer the blacked out look.

Perfect - that's exactly what I want for the front grill, will be putting in an order shortly.

As for more chrome, I've got the boot lid chrome finisher strip (which runs along the bottom edge of the hatch lid, as well as a metal boot lip protector.

Now the weather is improving I can finally fit them, been too cold the last few months for the glue to stick properly.

I really like the chrome slats, it takes away the moustache look that I hate.

Look like the cost with shipping is about £40.

If you say they have a sale now and then, I will wait as I can't quite afford it at present.

From what I've seen, the 20% off sales generally follow holidays so I'm taking a guess that the next one will be in 3 weeks for easter.

Yep - holding fire until Easter in hope of another sale (plus I'm skint until pay day) - plan on ordering the chrome grill kit and that super-bright light they do for the boot.

You've only got to put an LED in the lamp in the boot to get the same effect. I did it with my Octavia and saved a lot of money.

Has the rapid got the bulb monitoring system? I.e. Will it cause any error on the dash, if replacing normal Lamps with LED's?

Yes it has.

If does, but a couple of people over in the Bulb Rcommendations thread have fitted the following LED bulbs with no problems:

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/car-maintenance-accessories/bulbs/brake-lights-bulbs/?971776331&0&cc5_401

They are supposedly Canbus safe so should not generate an error.

I plan on getting a couple when I have time to go to a ECP branch - don't trust them to deliver after the complete balls up they made of my headlight bulb order last month,

I've got LED's in my side lights and rear number plate lights... works well - they're the canbus friendly ones and I have no warnings on the dash! I've just done a 2 and a half hour journey and they're much better than the standard sidelight bulbs (I have the night-breaker's for headlights so they're not to blue.

  • 3 weeks later...

Don't suppose anyone has seen any sign of a holiday discount offer from SuperSkoda?

I am poised with a credit card ready to by my chrome grill inserts.

No, I've been looking every day for the past week or so but nothing yet. Plus I normally get an email from them when there's one happening.
