pas problems again!

Featured Replies

I thought I had fixed the problem by repairing the alternator load signal wire and it sorta did... wasn't lumpy and didn't require me to blip the throttle on start up to get it working either.

until yesterday.. I had to stamp on the brakes and my steering went extremely stiff and since my pas needs me to rev the car on start up to get it working and is lumpy unless there's mid range revs...

Could this be my alternator? I did have it tested a while ago and they said it wasn't producing until I blipped the throttle but then remained perfect. My interior lights still dim when I turn the steering... battery is spot on apparently.

Cheers

Sounds more like the alternator pulley, can't you just test it, there's obviously a problem with the current supply.

Alternator has been tested and as I said above it needed a blip on the throttle for it to start producing

I meant the pulley, whip the belt off and check it's working properly.

What do you mean? Spin it by hand make sure it moves freely?

It's a special pulley Jono, it has a freewheel with a one-way clutch built-in, check it freewheels one way and hooks up the other.

Your battery is marginal and because it was a cold morning the ECU cut the PAS to prevent the voltage dropping too far, it would have been ok if she'd have warmed it up for a bit then switched it off and back on again.

Give the battery a thorough charge and it should be ok.

Thank you for your reply and help

Cheers

Still got problems seems to be getting worse. PAS goes stiff when on the brakes and turning dims exterior lights and internal.

I took this to demonstrate.

How old is your battery. Connections clean

Btw you say you fixed load wire. Were both wires snapped?. How did you repair.

When i first brought my pd100 those wires had snapped so had those issues of lights dimming had asr light come on and stay on after 15mins driving

So i soldered both broken wires back together then blacktaped them.

And few months back replaced aux belt. Made a hell of a difference.

Not sure mate, connections look clean the battery tested to be perfect.

Yes both wires had snapped and repaired the same way as you done yours. Both wires are back in the correct place I butchered old plug to make sure when fitting the new one.

Right I've just had the multimeter on the battery.

Battery is at 12.5v

Start the car it goes slowly to 14.3v

Turn lights heaters etc on and it goes down to 12.3v and will rise even slower to high 13s - 14.18v with some revs on.

turn heaters etc off, engine running and turn the steering it drops to 12.3v.

Anyone any ideas?

You say the Earth connection to the chassis 'looks clean' - Why not undo it, clean it and grease it to be absolutely sure.

Whoever told you your battery is spot-on is having a laugh surely, nearly all those codes are caused by low battery voltage!
