retro fitting sat nav?

Featured Replies

:-0 Bizarrely I probably wouldn't have changed the seats had they not been part of the spec, but really glad it has them as they are very nice (and the scallop below the headrest reminds me of vRS seats :-))

I've got the Columbus and although it works well for routing, the traffic information (via TMC) is rubbish. It has limited coverage and rarely has the latest information.

This is the fault of the data providers rather than the Columbus, all that does is relay data picked up by FM and overlay it on your Columbus screen. The TMC system is quiet dated though, its been around at least 15 years.

I had the Amundsen+ in my mk2 and although it was nice to have the SatNav built in, the mapping was poor, directions/instructions laughable and the maps were extremely out of date.

My mk3 doesn't have Nav, I've bought a TomTom for £100 which gets thrown in a cubby hole when not being used. It's a lot better than the built in system was. If I had more memory on my phone I'd probably have bought the mobile phone version of the TomTom as the phone is on a dash mount.

The Amundsen in the Octy MK3 only shares the name with the MK2 version, the rest of it is completely different, just like the Columbus in the MK3 is completely different to the previous one.

I know that the only similarity between the sound system/iinfotainment systems is the name, my point was that from my (admittedly limited) experience of inbuilt sat navigation systems, they are not as versatile as a half decent standalone unit. This is only my own opinion though.
