DSG launch control

Featured Replies

My bad, I did not know that.

Your car isn't sold here, so the differences were unknown to me. I looked at the Norwegian Brochure but I couldn't see, (or understand!)  why it uses the 6-speed.

Maybe the 7-speed can't be fitted with the 4x4 drive-train?.

DC.

The 1.8 TSI paired with 4x4 has more torque than the front wheel driven (280 vs 250 Nm) to compensate for the extra weight and mechanical recistance. 7 speed doesn't cope with that torque. It's a sweet combination.

I've tried it a couple of times. Once in the wet and once in the dry. Great fun both times but not something I would make a habit out of.... First time I felt like I was hanging on for dear life and it did make me laugh. Second time my 10 year old was in the car and it was damp. Straight road upto NSL and she was shouting at the top of her voice then said 'that was awsome' so I guess that says it all :-D

When my first set of front tyres needed replacing I tried launch control. It was a warm dry summers day (the one only such day in Wales that year) the car pulled off slower than a controlled launch from idle and produced a slight puff of tyre smoke.

It was basically a waste of rubber which is exactly what I expected from a FWD car, I'll probably give it another go in my 4x4 when it needs new tyres.

Not bothered with launch control at all, (the instructions are in the EOS manual), an enthusiastic start in "S" produces e.nough unpleasant axle-tramp.

+1

Using "S" and disabling stop/start is my preferred method of getting of the line smoothly and quickly.  The other thing I have noticed is that the DSG is much smoother once warmed up.

from my experience,

transmission in D and just planting the loud pedal from a standing start produces a lot of wheelspin and transmission thumping (axle tramp?)

transmission in S and planting foot less thumping and some wheel spin

transmission in S traction control off and foot down just past the point where the car limits the engine revs (approx 2.5k rpm) (ie foot approx half way to floor), car takes off very quickly with no thumping or wheelspin.

Doesn't launch control thrash the clutches in the DSG box?

Probably, especially if repeated within a short space of time.

DC

Hmmmm. For all you guys constantly disabling your StopStart, extensive tests on many vehicles have found connecting your tuning box directly to the battery terminals, disables Stops tart 99.9% of the time.

However, it's doesn't reduce tramping

Not something I would do on a regular basis from a mechanical sympathy point of view...

Thank you that is useful to know,

Not something I'd bother with at all, with that engine!

(And not interested in doing it in my 1.4 either.)

No believe me... It's a fun thing to do !

I've been paranoid about burnt out clutches since experiencing one in my Viva back in 1971...

Yeah I had a dodgy clutch back then on my peddle car ! I was only 3 though .... ;-)
