Everyone should have a dashcam, and here is why ...

  • From the video the incident looks 50-50 to me. Other driver moved over one lane without paying attention, but you swiped from right hand lane to branch left too late and unpredictably. He was not real

  • One should not only be grateful for dash cams, but also for the laudable Google Earth and its Street View facility as this clarifies the situation (I believe).   The varied opinions in this thread a

We didnt convict anybody, we were just commenting the footage, because at one point the OP said that he was in the middle lane when exiting roundabout, which was not true according to his own video.

Mk4gtiturbo, the op, has never said he was in the "middle lane", he said the golf was when they were on the 3 lane section.

Some of the comments on this incident are ridiculous, the Golf has hit the Octavia I don't see how that video can be viewed any other way...

I don't think anyone is disputing that the Golf hit the Octavia.

The confusion / debate is around whether there was lane discipline issues from both cars...

The Golf's reg number is shown on the Video, any sites where you can check insurance etc ?

That shows that someone has the car insured, it does not show that the person driving it at the time is insured to drive it.

OP - what dashcam was that?

It is an e-prance 0801

Hi

I have a camera fitted following another hit and run earlier this year. Mine is GPS enabled so shows the speed if I choose. Hands up - I do occasionally speed when conditions are appropriote. Remember the new 80mph speed limit that was coming in after the last election? Do people leave this function activated? i see both pros and cons.

Thanks

I'll look our for those. It's nice quality.

The million dollar question is, are you trusting the other driver or are you going down the insurance route?

On or off makes no difference. It only takes some very basic maths to work out the speed from video footage.

Just to put this one to bed.  Car now fixed.  He paid.  Once he saw the footage he said he couldn't argue.  Not looking for any more discussion but thought you'd like to know the outcome.

Oh an there is another on order for the Mrs car!

Good result emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Title stands up.

I have had two (one pointing front and back) fitted for a couple of years now.  I seriously hope I never use them beyond getting trackday footage.

What have you got in the back, devonutopia? Any problems with it? Cheers.

Certainly the Golfs fault but further driver training could certainly help to minimise the risk of something like this happening again, defensive driver training does reap benefits.

Thats why insurance companies load policies where the proposer has had a no fault claim

Just had one fitted to my Vrs, Good camara at a decent price, very discreet

While devonutopia comes online, I'll just say the e-prance units seem to polarise opinion. Excellent, or a piece of cr@p. But currently available for under sixty quid.

I've got a Transcend in the front, and it's great, but I'm looking for something really small for the rear screen and the e-prance certainly fits that requirement. Some of the mounts out there for other cameras are positively huge too.

I have a DR380G in the back and a DR400G pointing out the front.  Not had any real problems with either although I am not a fan of often "crackly" sound the microphone seems to pick up.  I wish it was clearer audio for sure.

Cheers devonutopia.
