Oil Pressure Sensor

Featured Replies

Hi guys, havent been on the forum for sometime as I never bought a vrs a while back, now that ive got a vrs im back on the forum :)

Wondering if one of you guys could help me out, the fabia vrs I got off my mate has a replacement engine and he nipped the cable (oil pressure sensor.. green wire I think) its right beside the Oil Filter housing, he has put a crimp on it and reconnected the wire... wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue?

Light keeps coming on when I drive over 1k.. its really annoying !!

There are at least 4 possibilities:-

  1. Intermittent contact in wire.
  2. Issue with pressure sensor.
  3. Oil pump failing
  4. Blocked pickup strainer.

1 and 2 are fairly cheap and easy to fix but don't affect running. 3 and 4 cost more to fix, but will eventually knacker the engine if you don't fix them.

I had something similar on my Mk 1 Fabia and changed the Oil Pressure Sensor – it didn’t really help so I lived with it as it was only intermittent and I knew the car had plenty of oil and the pump was OK and eventually the problem went away.  However, at the next service we found the oil filter had folded over and lost much of it’s rigid structure…

Another option here is a failed oil filter - I had

Thanks guys, I see a split in the wire and a bad twist and join job.. I'll redo it

Can I reset the light with an obd2 scanner or does it have to be vcds?

Interesting; I'd never encountered this except on an old (used for lots of miles) filter.

It's more of an issue because the filter will stop filtering than anything else, since filters normally have a pressure bypass.

That sounds hopeful, and the pressure light is a real-time response to the transducer in the switch, so it doesn't need resetting.

Yes that had crossed my mind and I was slightly suspicious at the state of it and whether it had actually been changed at the previous service...   I was certainly invoiced and paid for it to be!
