Creaking interior sound

Featured Replies

Hello!

This is my first post here, have been just reading so far. But I'm writing to get some advice from experts. :)

So, the interior of my O3 2.0 TDi DSG is so quiet in comparison to other cars that I've owned that I have managed to distinguish a creaking sound coming somewhere from the corner between the dashboard and door upholstery. :S I've asked my co-pilot to put her finger on the exact spot but it isn't that easy. I've been trying to figure it out myself while sitting on the passenger's seat.

The creaking sound offurs more often on bumpy roads and/or when it's colder outside. That's logical of course. Still, anyone else has been experiencing this kind of problem(s) and do you have a fix for this? :)

Thanks a lot!

Fix is return to the dealer, let them 'enjoy' many frustrating hours locating the source, and 10 minutes sticking foam or Velcro on it.

Any other ideas?

Is it a "creaking" or a "tapping" sound?

There are some posts on here regarding a problem with some small plastic parts outside the window which can rattle against the window.

I have this sometimes on my car on the passenger side, where the dashboard, a-pillar & windscreen meet in the corner.

I originally thought it was something inside the car (air vents, glove box or door panel) but after much experimentation decided it was coming from outside.

I've played around with the plastic deflector on the window but cant change the behaviour.

Its not something that really bothers me or that I notice very often so I havent done anything about it.

As neiln suggests, mention it to your dealer but don't be surpised when they return it & say they couldnt hear anything.

You may be lucky & they have seen the same thing before so know how to rectify it quickly.

A well known cause of frustrating creaks are the door seals, they need to wiped with a silicon type spray once or twice a year - spray onto a small sponge or cloth and wipe around the seals, do not spray directly onto the seals as the spray goes everywhere.

I had a couple very annoying rattles,  ( MKIII Tdi Vrs )

1, Sunglasses in the holder in the head lining

2, The passenger side seat belt clip, the bit the seat belt into. the red top was loose and rattled, replaced under warranty. If would rattle when you tapped it with your finger it made a right noise. It didn't rattle when the seat belt was clipped into it.

Rattles and creaks are hard to find, you think it's at one side when infact ats somewhere else. Good luck with your search

Check the seat raising lever, mine was tapping against the seat. A small sticky felt pad sorted it.

Thanks, guys!

According to the manual the seals are covered with a lacquer that's damaged by silicone products, so I'm not sure if it's smart to do that... (I've used them on all my previous cars though.)

Yep

Using silicone on rubber seals can damage them in time and make it worse, had it myself on a couple of cars. You can get propper stuff for it, I use stuff called "Einszett Gummi Pflege" (no I have not been at the booze, that is what it is called)

Does not cost moon money and a bottle lasts for ages even if you do it regularly. there is a lot of other stuff but I find this is well regarded and seems to work for me

Yeah I've started using that stuff, its damn good stuff and very versatile.

Mine makes more creaking noises when it's really cold outside.

This morning after I had cleared the frost off it and driven off, it made loads of noises, this evening coming home when it was somewhat warmer, virtually no noises at all!

You should have heard my Mondeo after ikke t stood outside in -25 degrees a weekend. Everything creaked :p

Most of the creaking noises seem to eminate from the front, somewhere in the region of the front of the front doors where they meet the dash.

I'm not overly bothered, as I say, most of them go fairly quickly when with the heater warms the car or the outside temperature picks up a bit.

Around -30° seems to turn every car noisy as hell. And then different noises fade and appear as the car warms up.

I know. From around -12 the shocks on my car gets noisy, and the colder it gets, the more parts follows.

Ive never tested it below -25, so dont how that will sound.

But I had Focus rentalcar in -33, and when it had stood overnight, all lcd displays worked really slow untill the car gor warmed up.

I always dread turning the key on a cold car in weather like that, I can just picture metal grinding against metal before the oil starts to warm up. Luckily I shouldn't have to ever do that on the Octy. (I opted for the winter pack, and I now have a warm garage at home.)

I went for the winterpack aswell. Im almost looking forward to next winter now :)

Yep the Octavia is sensitive to temperature....i guess when you have lots of hard plastics bolted directly to metal (as alot of it is) its to be expected to a degree....also whilst the percieved quality of the Octavia is generally very good actual build quality whilst probably up on some of its peers IMHO isnt the best.

I noticed yesterday that my touchscreen rattles like a bag of spanners when really cold and my suspension creeks. Once its been driven a few miles and/or the temperature increases becomes less and less noticable.

Hi all, this is my firts post here, and I recognize, that you all are professional users of Octavia 3. I have similar problem with the noises/sounds in interior. There's something on the left side, behind front and rear doors. But I don't know where exactly it is. But yesterday, i try to shake with all doors, and just in front left doors something clicked. Somewhere inside. So do you have some idea what should be it? Its 2016, liftback...

Thanks all

I've had my Mk3 Octavia - 2016 1.2 Tsi S - for almost a year now and am dissapointed by the Interior build quality. Yes, the car as a whole feels more refined and upmarket than my old Mk2 Octavia - 2007 1.9 TDi S - but at least the interior in the Mk 2 didn't produce any offensive sounds.

Not so with my Mk3. I have buzzes, rattles & creaks from multiple sources - mainly from the dashboard and front doors which come and go depending on climatic conditions and road surface quality. I fixed a bad rattle in the rear seat catch with tennis racket grip but need to spend more time trying to fix the others. Pin pointing the exact location is a challenge though!

I also have an  intermittent creak from the rear suspension when going over speed bumps!

I am probaby over sensetive to these sounds but considering I have mainly bought Octavias for BUILD QUALITY and reliability, I think this could be the last Octavia that I own :-(

I had the same,  Mk1 and Mk2 Octy,  Mk2 Superb then Mk3 Octy,  then I bought a proper car,  spent new Octy money on a decent spec 5 Series with 33k on the clock at 21 months old, it's now done 85k, almost 4 yrs old and I can honestly say it's solid as a rock, very well engineered, especially the suspension which was my main bug bear with the Mk3

I have exactly the same problem. Seems to me more noticeable in cold weather. I can hear it every time a passenger wheel passes a bump.

The problem is still there on mine & perhaps you are right it is more noticable in winter.

I just put this down as one of the downside of the cheaper Skodas compared with VW/Audi quality & I didnt want the dealer removing trim pièces as experience from the past told me you fix one problem & create two more with this.
