Keyhole surgery - can I replace the driver's door mirror without removing the door card?

Featured Replies

After some distinctly ungentlemanly driving by a black Seat Leon at roadworks near Preston (Golden Way) my driver's door mirror has been shortened by 1/3, and despite valiant efforts by my wife with see-through gaffer tape it really doesn't work as well as it should.

Question is, can I exchange the mirror and housing without removing the door card?  I can get at the Allen screws ok but I'm reluctant to yank too hard (oo er Missus) on the cable in case the multiconnector parts company with the door harness somewhere deep in the bowels of the door.

Any ideas, chaps & chapesses?

Regards, Mike

yes but is tricky to unplug the connection

I had somebody lean on my (at the time) Mk1 Octavia mirror.

They snapped the completed mirror (plastic cowl, glass and mirror) at the pin that allows it to fold in.

I definitely remember removing the mirror bracket without doing the card. I don't remember the connector being an issue. That said, I did dismantle the mirror unit and took the wires off the motor which would have allowed me some slack.

I think you just prise off the tweeter cover on the inside to reveal the screws, remove them then the outside mirror will "pull off"

(it was in about 2006 so please excuse the vagueness)
