Can you half reset the service indicator?

Featured Replies

Had the second service on my Roomster early this week, service indicator reset OK for the oil change and shows a 1 with 363 days and 9300 miles when scrolling through using the lh button on the display, but on switching on the ignition the display shows a 2 (inspection service) with 156 days and 400 miles left. Does anybody know if it is possible for a dealer to half reset the indicator, or do I have a fault?

On my Roomster using VCDS there is a setting for days. I can't remember exactly if it is days to or days from your service. But a normal 1 year reset would be 365 to go but you can set this number to anything.

Hence to answer your question. It is possible. However I would not know if 1) normal dealers equipment can do the same, 2) it could well be some advanced option and 3) why would they bother ?

But technically as you ask, yes it is possible.

The best thing for you to do is get somebody with VCDS to read the current number of days, check it matches your numbers and reset it, see if then all is as you expect.

The dealer has sorted it out now, thanks Aubrey. Whilst he had his laptop out I also got them to disable the convienence function as I have had one occasion when all four windows were down when the car was in my integrated garage, I suspect due to me leaning or sitting on the key!

The crappy handbook states that if you reset it yourself it reverts to fixed servicing which is no good if your car is programmed for variable servicing. My dealer said that the dealer plugs it in to reset to variable servicing mode. When I come out of the warranty it won't matter as I will do the oil change myself

Yesterday my display showed (on switch on) 5 and 4500 miles near the spanner icon. When scrolling to the (2) mode it shows 158 with 15000 miles near the spanner icon. What is going on? The car has only travelled 8900 miles since new so I am baffled as to what the computer is advising

Your car is coded with an oil change interval and a service interval. They are both reset separately using diagnostic equipment.
