Door trim 'decorative inserts'

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone knows if the decorative inserts on the door trims are removable and if so how do you get them off?

I'm talking about the silver (or carbon in the VRS) strips that go back from the door handle

I am told that they are bonded on to the trim card, but one of the accessories sites (SuperSkoda I think) has listed a 'soon comming' replacement trim. Just wondering how big a job it would be. Always thought (IMO) that the silver looked a bit cheap

Anyone had a trim panel off and seen how they are fixed?

From what I read on other forums the inserts are riveted into the doorpanel (the plastic part not the metal one obviously). You can get them out but have to drill them open and then fix the new inserts with screws or glue them.

That's the info I found. I haven't taken the panels out to confirm, though ;)

They'll be riveted on I expect.

When I had my Mk6 Golf GT company car, I remember a time Quik Fit came out to change my tyres.

When I got the car back pleased the guy hadnt destroyed my rims (as he had done in the past) but this time had put a massive score in the silver decorative strip in the drivers door trim. I can only suggest he must have exited the car with my key bunch in his hand and caused the damage.

I did look to go down the line of getting my fleet dept to replace it but in the end transpired the panel wasnt replaceable and it required a new door trim.....£240 + VAT without labour....needless to say i just lived with it.

Thanks for the info I guess I will wait until I've got some work to do behind a trim panel and have a look, or wait until Super Skoda do a utube vid on how to fit theirs when they arrive!

I never liked the silver metal effect door and gear lever console trims in any VAG car. I got the pretend wood trims instead, but out of choice (and if an option on the elegance) I would have got the carbon effect trims from the vRS which look pretty good.

The "metal" looked so crappy compared to the real brushed aluminum in our Volvo I opted for the "wood" instead, looks less fake.

Thinking about buying an Octavia Scout, the current model, but would prefer the fake walnut door and gear trims to the awful grey 'brushed wood' look. From where did you buy the 'wood' trims? Were they expensive? I daresay I could ask the garage to change them for me immediately if I buy this car. Thanks.

Don't know why I am a 'newbie', have been following Briskoda for many years now.

The gear surround can be changed fairly easily, but the door trim strips are welded on.

All the door cards would have to be changed at approx £200 each.

They could be wrapped in film in a finish you prefer I guess.

or painted, but that would need lots of lacquer. Also looked into this, it's pretty clear from various youtube videos that it's all riveted in place.

Vinyl covering should be considered, so many colors and textures available (including "brushed" aluminium, shining or mat colors, wood, carbon, chrome. .. even gold :-) ) and really cheap for two door trims of few square inches to cover.

I don't understand why they have that nasty cheap silver effect. The dash panel they fit in the Fabias is much nicer! The Golfs get nicer trims too, at least in anything but the base 'S' model.

Vinyl is definitely a good option. A nice matt 'brushed' aluminium effect, not dissimilar to the dash panel in the Fabias, would look great IMO.

Mine ended having the fake walnut wood trim as standard which is so dark it doesn't really bother me that much either way. As above, I think a brushed aluminium would look the best

It was just the work involved on doing all 4 doors and the centre console (round the DSG gear legends and that thin chrome finger pull on the sliding storage cover) combined with the fact that it seems even if you use the good di-noc stuff it only lasts a few years, meant I didn't bother in the end.
