Shiny new Citigo arrived at last.

Featured Replies

I picked up my tornado red 60bhp elegance this afternoon. Nice:)

The PID thingy didn't work, so a new one will be ordered. Not quite so nice...,.

It has both drivers and passenger electric window controls on the drivers side which is nice:)

Things to think about are getting some sort of spare wheel, parking sensors and cruise control, maybe. Get it run in first...

I'd suggest wind deflectors too, just so you can keep the window open in the rain to help demist the car as I find it can struggle to demist it fast enough  welcome to the red go fast club

Good idea, opening the window in the rain is a bad idea!

Being a newish car still they aren't cheap but you can pick them up on eBay for just under £30 now, I think when I got them back in 2013 they we're just over £40 from the Czech Republic incl postage

Welcome to the shiny red club. Spare wheel is an easy fix although you will pay more now than if you ordered with the car. Parking sensors can be added but the factory fit ones work through the PID and I'm not sure if the dealer fitted ones will. Other after market sensors certainly will not. As for cruise control there are a few threads on here and the Up forums about it but the general consensus appears to be that if you wanted it you should have ordered it factory fitted.

But don't let any of that put you off. The Citigo is small so reversing sensors really aren't needed and as for cruise control - pah! Flat out everywhere; just screw the throttle pedal to the bulkhead and be damned!

Wrong! :p You can in fact get the factory optional CC after you've ordered, you have to have a certain ECU ending in the correct 3 digits I believe, see this or follow the link for details

Ok,

Well it should have the ability to take cruise control then. Since, I believe that the spec is based straight on an Elegance (that's what I have). However, there is one way to check for sure. But it's a complete ball ache lol. You need to check the part number of your Body Control Module (BCM). This is the car's computer system. If it has one of the following codes then you're good to go!

1S0 937 087

1S0 937 088

1S0 937 089

1S0 937 090

Here is a picture of one, I'll show you where to find it in a moment:

BCM.jpg

Now comes the hard bit! To find this lovely piece of equipment, you need to get your head down near the pedals. Look up and to the right you should find a fuse box. The BCM is actually located directly above the fuse box! The only way to see it is to place a small mirror to the back side of the fuse box (near the "wall" of the driver's foot well) and shine a flash light up there. It's all a very tight squeeze.

Anyways, if you find you have the right BCM then all you need is about £100 worth of parts and a garage willing to do it for you. It's not a complicated job but it may be time consuming (2-3 hours if labour).

If you need any more info or help, get back to me

The ECU is located in the most bloody awkward place ever, right above the accelerator pedal, you need to film on a phone with the light on and try and focus onto it to get a "snapshot" of the ecu number, I find this really difficult so it's not for the faint hearted (or the old :D

Lucky you. Mine is being built this week apparently!

Mine will have cruise control but I am wondering if it will be useful on such a low powered car. Can see it struggling to maintain speed on hills. I may be wrong though.

Post up some pics.

Yep, seen all that but I didn't say you couldn't do it, just that if you wanted cruise control it should have been ordered from the factory. Assuming Eldarcb's car has the correct ECU it's still going to cost a bunch in parts and a whole lot of labour to get it done. Of course you can do anything with enough cash.

Hills are the only issue I have but the gearbox is very easy to use so changing down is not a problem. The Citigo is absolutely fine on the motorway and has no trouble keeping up in the outside lane.

Should just be an old flick of the switch on VCDS and a new indicator stalk? What do I know :D

If only that simple [emoji57]

I seem to recall reading that wiring was still required.

If like the Octavia and Rapid you need an extra loom for it.

Just steal one from a Corsa, no one will notice :D

Cruise control on that kind of horsepower? I don't believe it's a great idea! We don't think of chosing it on the next Citigo order (prob. this week)....I have cc on 170 Yeti, the power is excellent for maintaining the chosen speed, 170 is quite different from 60-75 :notme:

Yes I agree, but it was part of the convenience pack which I wanted.

Don't have CC if you have the ASG, jeeez the box goes nuts :-o

I thought yours was week 12?, mines being built this week and have been told its week 14.  I guess the CC all depends on the car, I had a ford 2l tdci a while ago, the revs in 6th were nice and low at realistic motorway speeds, unfortunately the CC seriously struggled on any hills. The V70 seems happy enough on any hills though, 5 cylinders probably helps a fair bit though.

was delayed, I'm not convinced it's being built this week TBH

It's a bargain basement car at the end of the day, as much as we love 'em. Don't waste money on this stuff which you'll never see again come trade in. (I wanted the convenience pack but took a car already in the system for a faster delivery, and in all honesty haven't looked back since).

Passed 500 miles now, and no regrets. Coped surprisingly well with Cumbrian Fell roads, just thrash it goes up the nice steep hills and badly cambered corners without drama. Steady indicated 80 in motorways and has sufficient reserves. And just over 50mpg.

The replacement PID arrived and works fine. Only drawback is getting wet when I open the door or window in the rain.

I'm not going to bother with cruise control, and a £15 set of ebay reversing sensors should suffice.

All good fun.

Lol, I got mine 5 days before you and have only done 470 miles :nerd:

  • 1 month later...

I bought a 64 plate pre registered Citigo 75ps manual Elegance 5 door with 36 miles on the clock in April. It was not factory fitted with cruise control.

I asked the salesman about having cruise control fitted. His reply is below:

The answer is yes, it can be fitted to a used car.
The only issue is price. We use a company called Vag-Tec who only do retro fitting to VW, Skoda and Audi.
They use genuine parts and are less expensive than our own workshop but even cost price from them is £349 plus VAT.

I had it fitted as part of the purchase price that I agreed with the dealer. I suspect that it would have cost £450-ish had I gone to VAG-Tec direct as an aftermarket job.

I can confirm that it works - as I have now used it for two x 340 mile round trips.

The first time I set it at 75mph and the car pulled quite happily up and down the hills along the various motorways. Including about 55 miles of stop-start city driving, that tank/journey achieved 48.6 mpg.

The second time I set it at 70mph. I will be filling up the tank after the second trip in the next couple of days to see how much difference 5 mph makes.

.

Do you know what model number ECU you have though? They might have looked up on there system and saw your car was compatible unlike some others (mine for example)
