Todays remap at Jabba

Featured Replies

Thought i'd write a quick post of my trip to Jabba today for my Fabia VRS remap as part of the group buy. I also had the curpa intake and a green cotton filter fitted on thier recommendation.

I arrived at about 12:15 after driving past the place twice (but hey, the twistys and nice right hander down the road was quite good fun), finally i saw a purple lupo peering from behind the trees and decided to exit the A road :)

Was welcomed in and ushered up to the reception area, handed over the keys and took root on a very comfy armchair and chatted with a few chaps (drop me a message guys, one of you was in for a load of work on a fabia VRS, another for a remap on an Octavia and another for some work on a Golf?), we switfly decided it was time for some grub and disappeared across the road for some lunch (I can highly recomend the restaurant at the end of the uni.... garden centre).

On return the mapper was back from lunch and was asking if I was worried about smoke, i said i wasnt too worried and then he set about working his magic. Just under 2 hours later and multiple stories about broken cars and "during the war" style antics, i was approached and told that the car was ready and that I now had myself 192hp!!! I handed the keys and asked to take it out for a test drive. Needless to say i'm out the door quicker than an alcoholic to a free bar.

So, I carefully take the car out of the turning and onto the local A roads, then i get teh courage to plant the throttle, whooooosh, off it went, into 3rd whoosh again, into 4th, speed still rising like crazy, black smoke all over the place and I soon ran out of road. I'd tested it enough and wanted to get back home, so I turned around and made a run back to Jabbam the s bends and right hander was much more fun this time :) I planted the throttle on the exit to the 90 degree right hander and the wheels scrambled for grip.

I willingly handed over the debit card and was on my way. The drive home was thoroughly enjoyable and I haven't stopped smiling since, thanks to all those involved, i really never expected to come away with that much power and the car is a total joy to drive. I sold a 300hp impreza a year ago and the thrill of driving such a powerful front wheel drive comes very very close, and its even more fun to see peoples faces when you leave them behind in a cloud of smoke!!!

They told me the only reason they dont map them for 220hp is because the clutch isnt strong enough, so subject finances, I think i'll be back up to Peterborough in the new year :)

Oooooh. :D Although to be fair I'm not going to be publishing my Jabba figures - Going to wait for a couple more runs before deciding the true power. ;)

EDIT

Are you implying their rollers are a bit optimistic, Jason ? ;)

No - I just want to get an idea using as many places as possible. I'm sure Mike wouldn't mind me doing that, and after seeing what my car's putting out as standard on older style reliable rollers, I at least have a base. I'll know if my standard power dyno matches the TSR one, It'll be pretty good. (good, implying accurate on the remapped figures.)

As an aside a local tuning place in Plymouth (run by a knowledgable chap called Alan Jeffery) is having a brand new RR fitted. Hoping to organise one of the first RR group runs on it - There'll be one more comparison to Jabba - I also wouldn't mind another trip back to TSR once done.

Hi UHF

Twas a good day - Got in my Octy and the increase in power is immediately noticable - Evern in fifth gear at 70mph (cough sorry occifer).

Now for the bad news. That turbo upgrade I misheard the price - It is not

Hey guys, just a quick hello before I pass out from the 8 hours at Jabba and 5 hour drive over to the Welsh border straight after. After being on the A43 or what ever it was for what seemed like days I really don't want to see another roundabout for at least a week.

I had so much done to the car today but a quick summary of thoughts so far, baring in mind I was driving in friday traffic and very tired so taking it easy..

Miltek Exhaust, I like it, not over baring and a very nice sound when booting it. looks the business too.

312" brakes, well boy do they stop. :D i'll need some more time when not so tired to really try them out on quieter roads. Discs sure look big behind my 16" wheels.

Eibach Springs and dampers, very surprised at not losing much comfort, I was expecting a harsher ride, nice handling around corners with the car staying nice and level but I guess this is in part because of the rear ARB I had fitted also. Car looks a lot lower than I expected, real nice. Nose stays nice and level even on fairly heavy braking but again need more time.

Jabba rear ARB, see above and also need more time.

Upper strut and Seat Cupra intake, as these went on at the same time as everything else and also having an FMIC i'm not sure I can even begin to pin point what these do individually but they are on.

I think the guy with the Golf was called Brett but i'm not sure if he is a member here. The day went a lot quicker than I expected and it was good to meet you guys. The people at Jabba are a great bunch too.

Only the clutch is the problem? Not the turbo?

Not wanting to hijack the thread too much, but how do you know they're reliable?

Just what Neal said (he might see this and comment further on his own equipment :)) - older ones not so reliant on sensors - Its just a two roller, load of machinery in a hole in the floor, and a needle spinning around in a display. :) Like I said, I'm not going to say my BHP until I have perhaps three, maybe even four different comparisons - Only true scientific way - take all 4, add together, divide by 4 - gives me the average., then I'll see which one is closest to that average. ;) Obviously the more RRs I do the better it is for my average calculations.

Cool - look forward to his explanation, although I've never met a tuner who hasn't sworn their rollers are accurate! :D

Btw, only truly scientific way would be to pop out the engine and put it on a bench dyno ;) Not that you want to go taking the engine out now!!!

Why not? :D

Uhf, I would get a fmic before the summer comes cause the smic won't cope with the additional temperature.

John

John - Does Allard have a rolling road at their place? If they do I might see if I can get another "standard" comparison whilst up there.

I wasnt intending on going any further with this car, i did 15k modding an impreza so i just went for the remap for a little "refresh", surely it'll be safe in the summer but just a little weaker

You'll get more smoke, and you'll get the ECU 'backing off' too in order to reduce temperatures.

With my (currently standard) vRS it was noticably slower when making progress through the gears on warm/hot days. On hot days (30 degrees and higher outside temp) I definitely noticed more smoke.

It's one of the reasons I wanted the FMIC and although it will increase turbo lag slightly before I get it remapped, it will pull all the way through the gears without problems :)

uhf - very impressive bhp figure  but what is your torque figure now ?

Ok i've had a chance now to drive on familiar roads around Welsh border country and I can say that all the work to my car last Friday has made a vast improvement especially when hacking it around on local A and B roads. I can now take known 's' bends where I had to correct stearing in the past in one swoop at a time, I guess this is a combination of being a little lower and the front upper strut keeping the stearing that much more precise but it is quite noticable and so much more enjoyable.

With the Eibach setup things are a little more shaky on B roads but never uncomfortable (the kind of shaky that makes you smile or chuckle when you can feel swimbo's eyes burning into the side of your skull from the passenger seat) and I did feel the back end go a little lively at one point when I hit a rut or somthing at quite a pace but I don't know enough about the effects of the individual componants to know if this was the rear ARB or the fact I have less travel on the suspension now i'm a little lower. I guess I may have just been feeling the left back wheel losing contact with the road very quickly and then coming back into contact. What ever it was I would not have taken this stretch of road at quite a pace on standard suspension and feel the same 'rut' would have caused me to bounce all over the shop if I did.

Bigger brakes are very useful indeed. I never considered I would not stop with the old setup but always allowed for that happening as at times they did not inspire me, but now I know i'm going to stop  The zimmerman disks sure look big behind my 16's though. :P I think the Octavia estate driver that pulled out in front of me on the way back to London should be grateful too for my larger brakes, even if he doesnt know i have them he may of known I didnt if that was the case.

As for the Milltek exhaust, every Fabia vRS should have one. :D I don't have a clue what it sounds like from outside but from inside it sounds great when your hacking about.

Glad to hear you are all enjoying your Jabba mods as after 2 weeks of getting mine done, I still have a smile on my face!!

At the moment it's just remap and eibach springs but this is enough to keep me happy and also my bank balance!

As for the accuracy of the Jabba rollers? I don't particularly care. At least the before and after figures using the same rollers and conditions should give you an idea of the increase in performance. Mine worked out at +35% increase in bhp and +32% in torque!

We were on a trackday at the weekend, no difference in performance between 180bhp and 220bhp on the track at least, there were two off each and couldn't be seperated.

Only one smoked like crazy the rest were very clean. 2 had the very large Seat FMIC ( when compared side by side with the Forge one ) 2 had Forge

The smokin one we suspect had a track day remap, but he blamed it on the Forge diesel BOV.

We were on a trackday at the weekend, no difference in performance between 180bhp and 220bhp on the track

On a track a 10% better driver will lap quicker than a 20% quicker car. I'd say none of the drivers of the quicker cars were much cop if 40bhp makes no difference to lap times.

Every one carried different corner speeds, but the drag from the hairpin on the main straight to 110mph braking point no difference. Some cars were stripped out running low fuel but mm in it at the end of the straight.

I dont know what my lb/s figure is as this printout is metric, it says the following:

engine power 141.5kW (192.2Cv) at 3709rpm (156.8km/h)

wheel power 124.7kW (169.5Cv)

Max Couple: 422.3Nm at 2709g/m

air temp was 20c apparently, felt colder

Max Couple: 422.3Nm at 2709g/m

Works out as 311.43lb/ft
