Drivers side wiper is hitting the paintwork!

Featured Replies

 Not too hard thankfully, but the drivers side wiper is wiping an extra inch or so to the right, and appearing to bounce off the edge of the screen and into the paintwork there....

I can't see any difference in the resting position and its possible both wipers are sweeping an extra inch or so (can't really tell with the left hand one) Is this something I can alter to correct? Its not very nice to have the wiper make a slight clunking noise on its upswing....

Thanks

Your car has probably shrunk with the onset of cooler weather. :D

Simple bud unbolt the wiper arm lossen arm and allow it to drop down lower on the screen at rest and then tighten back up

The linkage is mechanical, so I cant see how it suddenly started clearing more screen. The motor goes round and round constantly and has a metal shaft that is in turn linked to the arms. Did you remove the mechanism during your upgrade.

I wouldn't mind knowing why it suddenly decided to do this though. I had the screen replaced and the wipers were off for a while during the conversion, but this is the first time I've seen them go like this - I'd swear they were fine after the conversion, and up to this morning. :)

have found that in really heavy rain they go a tad further.... less friction?????

Well, its been bloody HAMMERING it down here today - Was down to less than 60mph on the M5 due to spray. :grumpy: So its pretty much been as wet as it can get,

Worst thing is I think I didn't do enough prep before my ombrello application and its not really working properly! :( Might have to buy another pack and make sure I spend more time on the cleaning & prep before the application. :o

Mine does it every now and then...

The nut probably isnt tight enough, drop the arm down a bit, easy.

are they skoda wiper blades or aftermarket like bosch?

They're OEM ones. :) In need of replacing too - not the cleanest of wipes either. :o

aaah ok, i got bosch ones and they were a bawhair too long, clipped the a pillar on every sweep. not that then :D

Just dragging this thread out despite it being 4 years old.

Just replaced my OEM ones with wiperblades website own reccomended ones. Drivers side is knocking the pillar by a fraction each time. Didn't realse until i drove up to work in the rain (2 mile journey). Problem is, the plastic end of the wiper has actually taken paint off of the column so that's going to have to be touched up..

Moreover, I have bought the right length? I could have sworn it was 21" for drivers side and 19" for passengers, not 19" for both. Think I'll have to try lowering the arm as mentioned above. Is it easy to get to? (as in the bolt is in-sight)

Thanks

My car had this problem too. The drivers side wiper caught the edge when driving in heavy rain with wipers on full or at speed when very windy. I took to the dealers and they failed to fix it after 3 attempts. It did not catch when stationary in their wind-free dry workshop. I changed mine for a standard Bosch (as they suggested) and it still did it.

The problem was solved when I replaced mine with Bosch (Aero-Twin) Retro-fit aero wipers. Yes, Dave they should be 21 inch (drivers) and 19 inch (passenger).

Hello Dave89,

Your spot-on with sizes 21'' drivers/19'' passenger.

Plastic flip cover over each securing wiper arm nut, (base of wiper arms.)

Probably you will need a wiper arm removal tool (see E.Bay), as corrosion sets-in between the arm and splined stalk, and a real pig/difficult to get off, usually.

Did mine, and smeared copper-based grease on replacing arms to stalk-ends.

Great, I'll have a browse for that tool and see if I can get it adjusted!
