Best 205/40 Tyres?

Hullo

It's not going to be long before I need new front tyres. My current Marshalls were easily the cheapest tyres I've ever bought at

Sorry to sound blunt but for

buy cheap tyres.. do big wheelspins without the worry of the cost;)

Toyo Proxes on mine Jason and it grips very well. Just as good in the wet too as i found out at the national meet!

Toyo Proxes are very good tyres. Had them on my old 16's. Used the fronts in 10k though. Changed the fronts to Pirelli P-Zero. V.good if you can get the extra funds to buy them. I currently run Falken's on my 17's and they too have given good service. Out of the lot though, for grip in wet/dry and value, I'd go Toyo. They are much better in the wet than Falken, but not as good as Pirelli. in the dry they are as good as Pirelli but better than Falken and they are the cheapest, followed by Falken, then Pirelli. :D

Toyo's do seem to come highly recommended from everyone - I'll try and aim for them when the time comes. I think judging by Matt's cornering ability (compared to mine) was damn good. The Marshalls definitely suffer in the wet though - but not to the point of being dangerous as I found out in the clouds.

edit: I like the philosophy, Paul. :D I kind of felt like that at the National hence my desire to constantly get the tyres squealing like a stuck pig.

The toyos are 65 quid over at mytyres.net (exl fitting) all the big names, Goodyear, Dunlop etc are around

I've got the Toyos and found them great in dry and now since Monday, the wet!!

Had Falkens on my Vectra and found them a bit "nervous" in the wet.

So for the money, I would recommend Toyos - just a bit concerned about them lasting only 10K on the front - that's about 5 months motoring for me!

John.

Should have mentioned that the 10k I got out of them did include 2 track sessions round Castle Combe! :D

Seemed to wear the tyres out a bit quicker when your hustling GTi's round a circuit! ;)

Can't understand for the life of me why though!

What about when you're hustling a black RS around Wales? :D

It wasn't obvious from the way you were hurtling around those bends on Saturday, Rob? Or was it just kamikaze driving... :D

I was taking it fairly easy on Saturday as the roads were a bit narrow for fitting an Octavia sideways... :p

Did have one scary moment on the first stretch trying to keep up with Q by overtaking just after the muddy wet roadworks... :D

Yeah - I saw following a xsara picasso through there, and got too close and before I knew it my screen was caked up to the roof with muddy spray water. So, all that wiping down in the hotel car park was for pretty much nothing. :D

I got it off with the washers thankfully.

And there I was trying my utter best to shake off this unknown silver tavia who all of a sudden appeared in my rear-view mirror...

And there was me leading the group not even knowing Rob was there :D

:D

Was tempted to flash my lights as a "hello" at Q, but I was afraid in case he took it the wrong way and thought I meant something like "come on, y'big fairy, put your foot down"... :p
