Mtecs DLR bulbs

Featured Replies

Order some of these ready for my car, put in 2 weeks after I got the car, and 2 days later a bulb blows, Contacted hids-direct and they sent a replacement out the next day, 5 days later, one of the replacements  have blown. Sticking to standard bulbs now I think, they might not look as good but they can last longer than a week. The cars only done a total of 698 miles.................

Did you use gloves or piece of cloth when you touch the bulb? Greasy fingerprints may reduce bulb's life.

Well documented this is. Those MTEC,s are useless.

Yep, the MTEC's are frankly ****, although some people have used them and they've lasted a long time, I opted for £25 LED's, lasted for over a year now, StormChaser's opinion is don't bother :D

Absolutely [emoji106]

Going to order LEDs now, MTECs are a total waste of money

With the LEDS they need to be the correct way round to go dim when you switch to parking lights, don't be alarmed if they don't, just take it out, flip it round and shove it back in

Leds looks horrible.

My MTEC’s lasted about 10 seconds... that’s because they were shockingly crap, so fitted CREE LED’s instead.

That’s personal preference though, personally I think crisp white LED’s look superb.

To me it's more like blue. And led bulb itself looks dull.

I agree they look awful and any LED that is not crisp white are only fit for the bin IMO.

These however look fine:

(the LED on the floor in the bottom photo was just about acceptable in looks as they are situated so low down, their performance was OK... but nowhere near as good as the CREE’s)

Cheers for the tip

This is why I use LEDs

Do you mean when off, or on??

So far as longevity goes, the guy over the road had a VAG car and both of his standard DRL's have failed within the first 12 months, and if i'm honest i'm not a fan of the yellow light they  give out.

Its interesting that normal bulbs are used for DRL'S, considering the Citigo can come with an energy recovery system for the electrical side of things http://www.skoda.co.uk/models/hotspotdetail?HotspotName=Citigo+-+Energy+recovery&Page=technology&WebID=6acae8bb-c267-411b-9d43-ada59beff58c,  I've no idea how much 50w's of bulbs costs in fuel (i'm guessing not too much) but considering they have a system to help the battery charging then I would have thought using low wattage bulbs in the first place would have been a better way to go?

Please tell me why? I don't quite see. Bright maybe, but why do you want bright bulbs? If I need more light, I switch driving lights on. :notme:

Simply put, it's different and no one in my area has them so also makes it a unique touch

Lower energy consumption was one reason why I wanted to try led bulbs. Besides they looks terrrible on and off, they are illegal really. But this is just how I see it.

And that's what they're supposed to look like [emoji16]

Also leds seems to flick every time when "start/stop-system" starts the engine. Not so cool I think. :peek:

Yes, 100% illegal, that's why you put the standard ones back in for MOT ;) police won't do anything, it's hardly worth pulling you over for a LED bulb, chances are they won't be able to tell the difference

I don't have start/stop I simply have "right foot" :D

My passenger side Mtec blew for the first time in 14 months. They've been brilliant. Took 14 months and 17,000 miles for them to blow. Don't see why everyone hates them so much! I have a friend who's stock bulbs in their Citigo blew after 10 months! I changed my bulbs with bulb gloves and blue-roll paper, and they lasted longer than stock did. Plus they looked better, and were brighter. :)
