My Modifications

Featured Replies

So, I have owned by car for almost a year now and have clocked up just over 11500 miles in it. From the moment I bought my first Octavia in 2011 I knew that I was going to become a lover of all things Skoda. I am now on my second Octavia vRS and think they are a fantastic car. My previous 2011 model was a vRS hatchback diesel in grey, which looked understated but at the same time a little bit aggressive as it came up before other drivers. When it came to the realise of the current model vRS I was lucky enough to have a demonstrator for the day whilst mine was in being serviced (a very tactical trick on the dealerships part). Needless to say having driven the new model I wanted a change and so ordered a brand spanker with a few toys on it. When the car finally arrived 3 months after it was due I was really pleased with it.

This time I went for the estate version as my role had changed at work and required me to occasionally carry lots of kit in the car. This time I went for the car in blue with chrome roof rails fitted, an option I haven't seen many other people taking up.

For a while I was really pleased with my new purchase and enjoyed how it drove and generally got down the road, but I have to say, I did feel that it looked a little old man-ish as it was. So as I saw it I had three options, keep it as is and continue to feel like an old man, buy something else which I didn't want to do, or modify the existing car.

Externally so far I have fitted a Milotec grille stripe to the front grille, a DTM front splitter from SuperSkoda and now a rear diffuser from Milotec. Eventually I want to drop it down and put it onto 19 inch BBS CH-R's alloys. I have also added wind deflectors, new numberplate surrounds and a Briskoda badge on the bonnet.

Hopefully you will agree from the photographs below the car looks a little bit meaner and less old man-ish now.

Looks nice,..

Out of interest, the rear diffuser, is that a clip on job on top of the original or a whole new piece??

Hi Telboy5,

The rear diffuser is designed to go over the top of the existing panel. It is fitted to the car by screwing six screws through the pilot holes into the existing panel. The top of the diffuser is held in place by 3M Double sided tape. If there are two of you available to fit it then the fitment is easy. One holds it in place whilst the other applies the screws.

Cheers, had a quick look at the website and as you say, looks easy enough.

Do like the look it brings to the rear.

Very nice.

The two mods I was looking at doing sometime soon when the old slush funds the wife doesn't know about get a bit topped up , the front spoiler and rear diffuser,

Unfortunately I need to get a detachable tow bar fitted later on this year so the rear diffuser is out.

One question, does the front spoiler match up color wise well with the grill etc, I have the Blk pack so it would be nice if it is the same.

The  wind deflectors, and number plate surrounds are also on the list  along with some of the interior Led mods people are doing.

The number plate led mod is also at the back of my mind, but undecided on which route to go.

Some coding mods look good.

I'm a bit disappointed with the quality and bass of the standard  audio system, messed about with it but not happy..  Not sure though if i want to start adding new speakers etc... Not modded a car audio system in about 20 years

The front spoiler came unpainted but a quick once over with some satin black in a spray can and a couple of coats of clear coat and it looked just like the grille.

How is the fit and finish of the rear diffuser?

Looks awesome, very tempted myself...

I am actually really quite impressed with the fit and finish. The diffuser is exactly the same colour as the bumper so blends in really well and as long as you line it up correctly yourself, which I took two attempts to do it slots into place really nicely. You wouldn't know it's an aftermarket part, although I did have a lad in mk2 Octavia vRS tell me how good it looked last night, so I am guessing he noticed it.

You won't be disappointed if you go for it SnailUK.

I bought it from a company in the Czech Republic called Cars-equipment.com and I had it imported for about £90.00.

I agree to an extent....I think its a bit of a shame Skoda didnt (or perhaps werent allowed to) give the vRS a slightly more extrovert exterior like VW have with the GTI/GTD.

Just some basic things its lacking IMHO....side skirts of some kind, the hatch ought to have a neater spoiler arrangement (the one on it is a bit marmite...you either love it or hate it and I dont particularly love it)....also the standard ride height could be perhaps 10/15mm lower just to give it a slightly better standard stance....but acknowledge a set of eibachs sort that out at relatively little cost anyway.

RE the OP's car.....

I like the front splitter

I like the rear splitter and think that is particularly a nice OEM+ type addition that looks as though it belongs

Love the sound of BBS CH's...a fantastic looking wheel

.....I have to say I am not such a fan of the milotec grille stripe but each to their own...personally id wang a black pack grille on there.

Thanks for your comments. I have considered going for a black pack grille and it might be something I look at in the future. I am also considering side skirts from Rieger tuning as they look great on their demonstration vehicle. at 109 euros each plus spraying and fitting that is something that I will have to wait to do.

The fit and finish of the reiger side skirts are excellent - you wouldn't regret it :-)

Blacking out the rear reflector across the back of the car is next for me - just to leave the parts of the edge exposed.

I didn't even notice the change to the rear reflector. Nice little touch. Your car looks great. I feel the side skirts are gonna add to the cars appearance a lot.

In my opinion, You wasted Your money for this modifications. It's my strict private opinion. No offence.

Charming , didnt you mother teach you that if you didnt have anything nice to say then say nothing at all ?

I like them and expect I will do similar when my RS arrives.

I wish you'd have kept your opinion private.

OP, nice few mods that helps me to see what I want to do to mine.

Loving that diffuser, if you don't mind me asking how much was it? And is it straight forward to fit?

Cheers

The diffuser came from a company called cars-equipment in the Czech Republic and cost 124 euros including post and packing to the UK. With two people working together it's a doddle to fit to the car.

Where did you get your wind deflectors from?

Charming , didnt you mother teach you that if you didnt have anything nice to say then say nothing at all ?

Why do owners forums have to be pages and pages of everyone saying 'WOW NICE!'.

The guy had an opinion, live with it.

Though you are right, though there is a polite way of saying something.

Saying he's wasted his money is not the best way of putting it. After all if HE is happy then it's not wasted money!

T'is the problem with the internet , everybody that has an opinion seems to think it matters you included

I've always thought that forums should be like the real world and not isolated by a keyboard , go to a meet or tell someone in a pub you think their car is a total waste of money and then deal with the consequences

But the old adage "If you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all" is perfectly valid in my opinion and the world would be a nicer place if more people felt the same way
