Painting Calipers

Featured Replies

Im going to paint my calipers Cadbury Purple rather than the standard VRS green. Ive changed one of my calipers so its silver and then the other 3 are Green. I want a good finish so they 'pop' and are quite noticably Purple rather than being a dark purple.

So my question is ive got 3 ideas of how to go about this, Which one do people belives going to give the best finish?

1. Apply several coats of Purple and hope that it fully covers the Green or would this give the Purple a murky black colour instead of it being bright?

2. Give them all a coat of Silver to act as an undercoat which will then make the Purple brighter (In Theory)

or

3. ( Which I dont want to do as im a lazy, tight git ) Strip the brakes, wire brush and sand them down to bare metal then paint them

Thanks In Advance!

Number 3. to do a proper job..

dya recon 2 would work though or not ??

If you want them to be noticeably purple I'd suggest picking a different purple as Cadbury purple is dark anyway. But as tough as it would be id also suggest option 3. Invest in the time and the finished job will be the reward [emoji106]

Always better to the job properly first time or you'll waste time and money having to do them all again.

Better yet, since you're lazy and tight, don't bother at all, just buy a tube of Pringles so you can 'pop' from the comfort of the sofa.  :D

just prime them first. no need to rub the 3 that are green back to the metal then. just rub them with 240 to give the primer something to grip too

The rear callipers are made from Aluminium so you will need an etch primer before you paint them. The carriers and the Front callipers are made from Steel so no real need to do them.

I removed seals, used paint stripper and sanded back a set of brembos: a complex casting so one hell of a job. Came out great though. I only did it as had already had a crap layer of paint over the original. I used Japlac spray paint, no primer. Now discontinued but still available on eBay. Great finish and holding up well so far.

If the paint is sound I would just rub it back to give a key. Give it all a really good clean, then primer or perhaps just silver basecoat, then top coats. Not sure if a standard paint will resist calliper temperatures. Japlac or Hammerite get decent reviews.
