Headlight restoration

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've been looking into restoring my headlights as they are very foggy.

Can't decide between the 3m kit or the meguiars G1900 kit

Online reviews aren't much help.

Has anybody used either one and can offer any opinions?

Cheers

I used the Meguiars kit from Halfrauds, was quite impressed with it.

I think it's because the sun has finally come out and is showing the frosting now. Everyone wants a refurb.

Yep i have ive used meguiars.very good. And got the tcut one too

Both do the job. Took me about 45min on each light. Quite time consuming. Polish off with uv protector. Ive now used on my fabia and gfs clio to get it through an mot

Anyone use uv wood primer on their headlights? Only about £5 for 250ml...

It takes off a thin layer of uv protection so you need to protect light otherwise it returns

Been looking for some uv protection clear coat for headlamps. Any one know of any?

Yes, but has anyone tried using the clear uv wood primer to stop them misting up again?

I did mine yesterday evening and was very pleased with the results. I used quixx headlight restoration kit

No but I remember seeing a thread on a U.S. thread about it.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Lights look brilliant after a refurb clunky23 can't wait to crack on with mine. I didn't even think about using uv protection afterwards, glad I asked for advice first, now it's whether to get the cheap and cheerful Maguiars or the gtechnik stuff.

I've got the 3m kit and it works very well. Just remember to tape up around the bumper, wing, bonnet ect because I ended up scuffing my bumper when I did it.

Overall it does the job very well.

Awesome cheers. Is one bottle of sealant ok for lights and windows? I probably won't attempt my windscreen yet as they are a lot of chips in it at present along with a lot of chips on bonnet so probably gonna get a front end respray and new windscreen. Just a bit apprehensive about getting sprayed and getting a good colour match to the rest of car.

Yeah it's fine on the windows the durability isn't that great on the windscreen to be honest, but I wasn't bothered you get quite a lot in that bottle might as well use it.

Yeah sounds good, cheers for the advice. I'll get a bottle on order. Might just "accidentally" crack my windscreen and get it done on the insurance. It's awful in direct sunlight. Looks filthy even after a polish with AG glass cleaner.

Same here i've even polished it with some Ceriglass, it made a difference got rid of the wiper scratches but mines got too many stone chips in it.
