Uniroyal Rainsport 3 Tyres

Featured Replies

Hi

Having replaced all four Kuhmo KU39 tyres on my Roomster last week with said Uniroyal tyres I noted from the off the Uniroyals are VERY noisey - they appear to whir as if I were driving with all terrain tryes from a Land Rover!

I've had several makes of tyres on several cars over the years but never experienced such noise - when in motion and I dip the clutch the noise of the tyres in the cabin is unreal and it seems to be getting worse!  God only knows what it'll be like on the motorway.

I originally thought the fitters had put them on wrong but checked and all are obviously ok.  They are the recommended 205/45/R16 size.  The only other thing I noticed was the fact the wheels were not in the same position as when they were removed - I think they swapped front to rear - but that shouldn't make any difference.

The tread is clearly very deep, presumably to provide the good wet weather grip they claim but I wouldn't have expected such noise - Camskill Tyres show the noise level to be 73dB with the KU39s being 71dB.

Does anyone have experience of these tyres or the problem I'm facing, regardless of make.  Any advice would be gratefully received.

Have you set the correct tyre pressures for the use it is getting, and allowed enough time to allow the newness to go from the tyres.?

Moved to tyre zone.

Yep, correct pressures (32psi all round) as with all other tyres I've had on the car.  On closer listening it appears to be more from the front tyres than the rear?  This is just weird..........

Nah can't I experience excessive noise to be honest I really rate the Rainsports the only problem I have is the wear rates.

Been listening closer and it appears to be the front tyres not the rear.  Oh dear, went off the KU39s because of poor wear! Doh!

Nope - no excessive noise on any corner of my vRS, either.

I suggest you get your wheel alignment checked. That'll often induce a cabin drone.

That said, whilst certainly not noisy, they aren't the most silent running of tyres.

I've had Rainsport 3's on my vRS having previously had the Rainsport 2's.
I notice the road noise becomes excessive only when having clocked up 30k miles.
I changed my fronts two weeks ago, after 12-months and over 33k.

Very happy with them and especially as they were only £90 each this time.

33k????

Wow!

So much for their reputation as fast wearing.

That Ford engined Octavia must be very light on its feet!

Been back to the chap who fitted the tyres - he was flabergasted by the noise and thought it might be the start of a wheel bearing on it's way out - chap at local garage mentioned this too but we've ruled that out.

The fitter is saving some old tyres for me to put on and take it for a test drive - we can then eliminate the tyres.  Thing is I knew it was the tyres within the first 100m of driving off when first fitted, as the noise started.

I'm in the process of finding a customer service email or number for Uniroyal to discuss with them.  A long motorway journey would be unbearable!

33k is very good going for RS3's

I would have needed 8 sets based on how long mine lasted. Any form of enthusiastic driving in the dry kills them!

As mentioned fitted rainsports3 to the front last week and they are quieter than the conti 3s that came off and jesus arnt they superb in wet and pretty good in dry

Very quiet tyres and I have had mine on for 10k/ 10 months and they still have 5mm of tread all round and I have a Skoda Superb estate 3.6 with 4 wheel drive.

I do keep the pressures a bit higher than most at 36 psi all around.

If you want quiet tires go for fulda :-)
