Leaky Door Seal

Featured Replies

has anyone had problems with the o/s door seal letting in water on the octy vrs the car has been back to the dealer several times they have changed the seal and aparrently adjusted the door but it still persists the water collects on top of the seal at the front of the door opening and when parked on a slight slope on my driveway it runs into the footwell and when the problem was first discovered the car was only a few days old and all the **** of the rubbers stained the carpet and it had to be replaced!recently the dealer in question ceased trading and now i have to go through all the hassle again with the new dealer just wondered if anyone else has this problem?

thanks nat:cheers:

Not heard of it as a problem at all - sounds like you have a duff one :(

nope, have to agree with stu. have never heard of this problem with other octys.

Neither of mine did it. Sounds like a duff door or seal.

Hi!

I seem to have a similar problem. I thought the water came from a leak in the plastic film inside the dooor, but this seems to be OK.

SO perhaps some of the seals are not sealing?

The water is collected on the bottom seal of the door opening - but it does not seem to leak at all occasions. But it happened the other day and then it was parked in a slilght hill...

Any ideas what one can do oneself?

My car also leaked water in this was down to the plastic seal behind door card and my own dealer did a bad repair and scratched my door at the same time still leaked so in the end done the job myself.

What exactly was your cars problem and how did you fix it?

Thanks,

PTR

somehow water was comming in only when parked on a slope it came through bottom of the door card and sill and then stained the carpet.

When the dealer took the card off they said the linner around the speaker was not stuck to the door so no seal, but it still leaked in when they had finished so i took card off and saw what a *ank job they did and they stuck silicon everywhere so i made a new linner myself and HEY PRESTO no more water. The only good job they did was paintin the scratch and i think chipsaway did that job!!!

The only 100% cure is to buy an Octavia Estate. :)

And how would this solve water ingress into the footwell Denis?

Surely the DOOR seals are the same on both the hatch and estate?

Skoda didn't make any duff Estates, Geoff! :D

Sorry Denis, but I’ve got to spoil your illusion – my 2000 MY estate has a leaky front n/s door. It’s only a problem if I’m over zealous with the jet wash or it’s absolutely peeing down. I thought it was where I’d cut the plastic liner for the “get some bass” speaker mod but I think it’s a iffy seal. May get around to sorting it some time – only get a soggy footwell once in a blue moon.

HI people old link i know, but i have found the same problem on both the front doors on my Octy VRS.

i have found it dont happen if the cars in park on flat ground but any other way fron up back up left or right side up,then i get water sitting on the front seal rubbers, im thinking the water is coming in from under the door trim card but not too sure, has anyone resolved this, when even i took the car back to the dealers they counld'nt find any leaks or door rubber problems.

Thanks

My guess is that the foam membrane liner behind the door card is either damaged, or not sealed at the bottom of the door. Water on top of the seal means its getting in behind the seal, so the rubber seal is probably fine. Try using duck tape on the inside edge of the metal and pressing the foam liner against it.
