Missing vehicle data sticker - service interval question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got a Fabia Mk 1 1.4TDi (55 registration so from later in 2005) that I bought second-hand nearly a year ago.  It's time for a service so I want to check what needs to be done.

The Service Schedule booklet tells me to loo at the vehicle data sticker to see which service interval to follow (QG0, QG2 or QG1), and the owner's manual tells me that the vehicle data sticker is "on the floor of the luggage compartment and is also stated in te Service schedule".

I've looked all through Service Schedule booklet, and there's no sign of the vehicle data sticker in there.

I've looked all over the floor of the luggage compartment, including taking out the spare wheel, lifting all carpets and covers, and there's no sign of the vehicle data sticker there.

Does anyone have any suggestions

a) where I'll find the vehicle data sticker

or

B) what to do to get the vehicle data without the sticker

or

c) which service interval I should follow?

Thanks,

Martin

It's on the inside of the front cover of the service schedule. Is there nothing on yours?

Thanks TMB.  No, I'm afraid the inside front cover of my service schedule booklet has no sticker (just the hand-written date of delivery, and dealer's stamp, and a big empty box where yours has the sticker).

Any other ideas please?

That's very odd.

If you contact Skoda with your chassis number they should be able to help you.

I can't think of a good reason why both vehicle data stickers are missing. Does your car's VIN agree with that in the V5C? How frequently have aervices been carried out to date?

I know they have a sneaky one, if you jack the car up, remove the drivers wheel then wheel arch liner, it has a tag on the chassis with a sticker + details.

It might have nothing but rubbish on, but might push you into the right direction.

All MK1 Fabias are on 10,000 miles or 1 year service intervals.

Thanks DGW.  Nor can I.  I bought it from a dealer, who were (in the usual way) very pushy trying to sell me all kinds of extra "services" I didn't want (I resisted).  I ended up not trusting them at all, and i wonder whether they removed the stickers to try to get me to go back to them for annual servicing?  I've no proof, but it's the only thing I can think of.

I'm going to do as TMB suggested, and contact Skoda with the chassis number.  I'll update when I've made progress, in case anyone else ever needs to do this.

Yes, I checked when buying.

How frequently have aervices been carried out to date?

Every year without fail (it's only been doing about 6000 miles per year).  I've got full service history and all MOT certificates, so I'm fairly sure the car is legit.  But the 2 missing stickers are strange.

Thanks

If it has had a Service Annually for 8-9 years then someone was doing Fixed Services 9,400 miles / 372 days,

so why not just continue as is.

Service as you want now and use long life oil if you are doing over 10,000 miles a year and not changing at 10,000 miles.

You will surely be wanting the cars Service and Maintenance done Annually because if not checking things yourself you need

someone to, and it gets MOT's annually.

The Sticker missing is strange.

Can you be sure the car has not been rebuilt, it does not need to show as having ever been in an accident if someone does

not claim off the Insurance.

Showing the VIN means nothing, ringing a car is not that difficult.

Here's the conclusion, in case it helps anyone...

As advised, I contacted (by web form) Skoda UK asking for the vehicle's data sticker.  They called me back to tell me annual or 10,000 miles service (no surprise there), and that it isn't possible for them to suppy me with a replacement data sticker.

Not the end of the world, but a little disappointing.

Did you check the one I suggested?

Isn't that just a barcode like this?...

Hmm, you might be right on that one.

More interesting to see if it's been removed also.

Definitely. I'd be having a look if it were me.

Find a friendly Skoda dealer and ask them to give you a Vehicle Data printout for your car. That lists all the information on the missing Vehicle Data sticker plus all rather than a selection of the option codes (PR Numbers) for your car.

Did you check the one I suggested?

Thanks for the suggestion.  To be honest, no I haven't checked this - jacking it up, removing a wheel and removing the wheel arch liner is a bit too drastic for me, just to get some information.  If I ever need to work in that area I'll have a look and report back, but I won't do this for now.

The car's running fine, I know the service interval so that will do for now.  I might try asking a Skoda dealer for a Vehicle Data printout at some point, so I'll report back how I get on with that.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.
